Mercedes Mone has confirmed that she has divorced her husband of nearly eight years, saying “I’m free.”

In a new video posted to her YouTube channel on Thursday, Mone confirmed that she has signed papers to finalize her divorce from WWE costume designer Sarath Ton, a former indie wrestler who worked under the ring name Mikaze.

Speaking with her advocate Keven Undergaro, Mercedes opened up as to the details of her divorce in a pilot for Mone Talks, a new video series:

“That’s part of why I wanted to do this pilot too, because tomorrow, finally, after a long, long time, I’ll be finally signing my divorce papers. I’m excited, happy. And for me, I’m just ready to be free.
I’m ready to be free of not being afraid.”

Mone went on to explain that the couple have been separated since the end of 2020, but that she kept the news private for a variety of reasons:

For so long, I’ve kept this secret because of how fast life has been going and so much that has been happening in wrestling and everything, and I just didn’t want the outside world to judge or say anything, especially during the time this all was happening.

“We’ve been separated for a long time. We got separated at the end of December 2020. He finally moved out in January 2021. I was shooting The Mandalorian, plus trying everything in my power to be the main event of WrestleMania, so of course I [didn’t] want this stuff to get out.”

Mone praised her now ex-husband, crediting him for saving her life:

“I’m getting a divorce. And Sarath, my ex-husband now, we have such a great relationship, and
He’s such an amazing, incredible guy I’m so thankful for, and he’s another person who changed and saved my life. But I’m excited to be free and to say that I’m finally getting a divorce.”

Mone also noted that she kept her separation under wraps while working for WWE, as she didn’t know how Vince McMahon would react:

“You don’t know what Vince is going to do, you don’t know what he’s going to change, because Vince is very…
I was in a storyline with Bianca [Belair], Carmella, and Carmella’s sommelier [Reggie], and Vince was so obsessed with me and the sommelier, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, he wanted us to be together,’ and all this stuff. So me and Sarath decided we were going to keep this a secret.”

“And then a year goes by and I still don’t want to say anything, and then here comes the [WWE] walkout. Like, all this stuff happens.”

Mone also said that divorce proceedings took a long time, but again asserted that she is happy for her freedom:

“And then we were trying to get our divorce and the divorce lawyer just took so long, and now we’re finally here. My heart already just feels so much better being, like, ‘I’m free.'”
