Former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon might just be the reason for Mercedes Mone’s exit from the promotion.

Mone’s WWE reign from 2012 to 2022 was nothing less than iconic, and it certainly was a shock to her fans when she signed with All Elite Wrestling (AEW), where she is currently the AEW TBS Champion. In a recent interview, she delved into her exit from the WWE and the events that led to her leaving the promotion.

Mone was a guest on the latest episode of The Breakfast Club with Charlamagne Tha God. In conversation, she was asked if she had witnessed wrestlers leave a promotion as big as the WWE for smaller companies.

“That’s usually how it used to be. But now it’s not. Wrestling has become bigger than ever. And now that there’s a second brand like this, like AEW, here to disrupt this industry, disrupt this business, I mean it’s amazing. Next week, we’re going to be celebrating five years of AEW,” she said.

Mone further mentioned that it’s the most that fans have spoken about wrestling in recent years. This was when she was asked about her reason for leaving the WWE. “I left for many different reasons. A lot of personal stuff happened with myself and the chairman [McMahon] at the time. And I just didn’t like how he talked to me and how I was talked down upon,” she said.

Hearing this, Charlamagne pressed her on McMahon’s se*ual abuse accusations, a question which Mone seemed uncomfortable answering and quickly brushed aside. “That day, he talked crazy. It was enough for my source of light to come into my body and be like, ‘You know what, if you stay, that’s not okay. This is for the rest of your life,’” she added. “What are you going to teach your kids? What are you going to teach people? This feeling like this from words, after ten years. I had to stand up for myself.”

“Not Right Now”

Meanwhile, there have been talks about a potential match between Mone and rapper Megan Thee Stallion. However, in the same interview, she revealed that the plan might not take place anymore. “Not right now,” she said. This was when she asked about the exact event that was planned to take place between the duo.

“Something fun, either a tag team match, a wrestling match, something. She would either wrestle with me or wrestle against me, but there was talks of doing something fun with her, but now she’s doing the opening theme song for SmackDown, which is awesome,” she said. “Just brand-wise, she did a song with WWE, and I’m with AEW, so I just think we can’t do anything together.”
