The current WWE roster has earned itself some praise from none other than hardcore legend and WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley. Foley was a virtual guest on the Kron4 show, The Finish with Kor & Tor, where he spoke about the current talent and some of his favorite WWE matches.
Foley was asked about some of his recent favorite matches, and the Hall of Famer brought up one specific match — the Undisputed WWE Championship match at SummerSlam between then-champion John Cena and Cody Rhodes. The match saw Rhodes capture the title, but really ended with Brock Lesnar returning and attacking Cena. Foley also praised Rhea Ripley. He said:
“Well, I was impressed with so many of the SummerSlam matches. Cody and Cena, I think really delivered the goods. And I think what ‘Mami’ (Rhea Ripley) is doing briefly is sensational — I love that. Becky Lynch is back, so I think WWE is looking at some really good days. They’ve done a great job getting their talent ready for the main stage, and that pays off in the end.”
Foley also spoke about how WWE not having a lot of stipulation matches was a “good thing,” because the matches wouldn’t be too special if they were overdoing it.
According to Cagematch.net, the last time WWE fans saw the 60-year-old in an official match and not just a one-off appearance was in 2012. Foley was one of the participants in the 2012 Royal Rumble. That year, it was Sheamus who won the Rumble match. It’s worth mentioning that his last match in WWE before that was as an entrant in the 2008 Royal Rumble. Cena was the winner that year.
A year after his 2008 Royal Rumble appearance, he went to TNA and wrestled for the company until 2010. His last TNA match was against WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair. It was a Last Man Standing Match, which Foley ended up winning. As noted, WWE and TNA are currently in a working partnership.
Since Foley left the ring, he has been making his rounds at convention centers to meet fans and sign autographs. Foley is beyond dedicated to his fans and seems to travel just as much as he did in WWE. It’s always good to see the hardcore legend get the respect that he deserves, since he’s always been the one with the kind words and open-mindedness of the new generation of WWE talent.
