MJF and The Hurt Syndicate make no sense, and that's why it's great

Over the last few weeks, MJF has been trying to worm his way into The Hurt Syndicate. As of now, those attempts have failed. Bobby Lashley wants no part of "The Salt of the Earth."

Yet, week after week, we see a segment dedicated to MJF's pursuit of joining MVP, Lashley and Shelton Benjamin. Those segments are growing increasingly enjoyable. On Wednesday, April 30, we saw the first shoots of where this storyline is going to take us.

A frustrated Lashley, hand wrapped around MJF's face, told him to prove that he can "hurt people."

Lashley's challenge has created a clear pathway for MJF and the current storyline. The perplexing part is that MJF is a former AEW World Champion. He's also endured some highly brutal matches, such as his dog collar match with CM Punk in 2022. He's proved that he can hurt people.

Of course, Lashley wasn't in AEW during those times. And now, he wants MJF to reach a level of violence befitting a member of The Hurt Syndicate.

In truth, none of this storyline makes much sense. Sure, MJF needs some backup in a faction-heavy locker room. But, as Lashley continues to point out, The Hurt Syndicate doesn't need MJF. However, the lack of logic is making this storyline more interesting. There's a palpable curiosity forming, not only of what a partnership could look like, but where it could potentially lead.

A significant part of good storytelling is making people want to keep turning up, ensuring they need their next installment of the saga. Somehow, some way, a story that has no logical reason for existing is becoming one of the most compelling subplots on AEW programming.

After years of fans calling for more story-driven content, AEW's creative team is delivering across multiple angles. MJF is once again proving why he's a true pillar of the company. And whether he joins The Hurt Syndicate or ends up trying to take it down, the next few months are going to be incredibly entertaining.
