MVP has been a fun addition to the AEW roster. He has been a staple on Dynamite since arriving in the company. Now that he's joined by Shelton Benjamin and Bobby Lashley, the Hurt Syndicate are starting to show up everywhere, including Collision.
MVP's ability to cut fun and engaging promo's has given AEW programming a new dimension. Their current storyline of recruitment from around the roster, and their issues with Swerve Strickland have been fun, fresh and exciting.
During a recent appearance on "4th Rope Interviews," MVP explained why he chose AEW after deciding to leave WWE.
"The next chapter currently is AEW. Got the boys back together, The Hurt Syndicate. I want to end that chapter the way it should have been ended," MVP said. “So we have plans to do some really good business at AEW. And then, I got a few matches left in me. I’d like to have a few matches before I hang it up for good ... I’m enjoying this role as a manager, a mouthpiece, doing commissioner work. So if somebody wants to keep paying me to come around and grab a mic and run my mouth, I’ll do it for as long as they pay me to do it. But otherwise, as far as wrestling, that chapter is coming to a close pretty soon."
AEW is a hard roster to crack. Multiple talents have made the switch from other promotions, only to get lost in the shuffle. Yet, MVP has instantly proven himself to be an important part of the immediate future. The fact he's back with Lashley and Benjamin provides somewhat of a known commodity that can be trusted to perform and draw viewers.
More importantly, it allows the trio to end things on their terms. They will be given significant creative freedom while also being allowed to produce some exceptional in-ring matches. If AEW can find a way to steer them into a clash with the Death Riders at some point, they could be onto a major selling point.
For now, though, MVP and The Hurt Syndicate are still getting acclimated to their new surroundings. Lashley is set to face Strickland at Full Gear. How they lean into that feud and how they continue to shake up the roster will dictate how far their success can go. But so far, all the signs are encouraging, and the fanbase has another reason to be tuning in on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
