NJPW presented the penultimate day of the New Japan Soul 2025 tour at the Tokyo Budokan. Headlining the show were the Global Championship match between new champion Gabe Kidd and Hiroshi Tanahashi, the NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team title match, and the last two G1 Climax 35 Play-in bouts. If you missed the action, here are the full NJPW New Japan Soul 2025 Results.
Here are the results and a short recap of the show:
Additionally, a note on commentary: New Japan will provide an update on the injury status of former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Hirooki Goto tomorrow, July 5 JST.
TMDK’s Ryohei Oiwa and Bishamon’s other half, YOSHI-HASHI, claimed the final two spots in the G1 Climax 35 after winning their respective play-in matches. Oiwa fended off a very game Satoshi Kojima while YOSHI-HASHI scored a win over Chase Owens.
The win over Kojima was one of the biggest in Oiwa’s young career, as it propelled him to his first-ever G1. On the other hand, YOSHI-HASHI will compete in the tournament for the first time in two years, where he tallied 4 points out of a possible maximum of 14.
House of Torture did not have the best of days yesterday, as they also lost the NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team titles. Toru Yano, YOH, and Master Wato prevailed despite the familiar shenanigans that HoT pulled.
The new champs had to endure an attack during their entrance, an assault on YOH’s previously injured left shoulder, and interferences by DOUKI and Yoshinobu Kanemaru to win. As a result, Yano became a seven-time holder of the titles, while YOH and Wato gained confidence heading to their rematch with SHO & DOUKI for the Jr. Tag Team titles on Sunday.
New IWGP Global champion Gabe Kidd made a successful first defense against Hiroshi Tanahashi in the main event. Kidd tested Tana throughout the match with his relentless brawling, and the challenger fought back with an intense flurry. In the end, Kidd was able to inflict enough damage to get the victory.
After winning, Kidd took the microphone and talked about what the match meant to him. “Without Tanahashi-san, I might not be alive anymore, so to have this match in Tokyo on his final road, that means the world to me,” Kidd poured out after mentioning that Tanahashi would often Facetime him back in 2022, when he was facing personal struggles.
The big win over the Ace gives Kidd a huge boost entering his third consecutive G1, which begins on July 19. Meanwhile, Tana will continue walking the path towards his final match at Wrestle Kingdom 20, as he faces Tiger Mask next on Sunday.
