Several NXT talents are being monitored as possible call-ups to RAW or SmackDown in the near future, including Ethan Page and Ricky Saints. The duo are reportedly catching the eye in WWE's developmental brand, but another top star on Tuesday nights has suggested he's ready to join the main roster.
NXT is thriving at the moment, especially with the ongoing TNA invasion angle, which allows the two promotions to cross the line and utilise one another's talents. This was the case on Tuesday night when TNA World Champion Trick Williams took on NXT Champion Oba Femi in a winner-takes-all match.
Their title contest ended in disqualification after NXT's Williams slapped Mike Santana of TNA, who was on commentary. This led to a brawl between wrestlers from NXT and TNA.
Williams was the first contracted WWE star to win a TNA title when he beat Joe Hendry at NXT Battleground in May. He has since held and defended the gold on TNA IMPACT and NXT.
The 31-year-old will undoubtedly be one of the centerpieces of the invasion angle, but he has his sights set on a call-up to WWE's main roster. He told Booker T on the NXT commentator's Hall of Fame podcast: "Yesterday couldn’t have been soon enough, man. I’ve been ready to make that jump to the red or blue brand for a long time. I feel like it’s that time, I feel like it’s been that time. I feel like people wanna see that. But as for now, wherever I am, I’m just gonna make sure it’s the hottest show."
Booker T has been one of Williams' biggest fans and waxed lyrical about the two-time NXT Champion being "the future" of WWE. He said that "Trick has picked up on more than anything, on how to go out there and be a really great performer" while applauding his run as TNA World Heavyweight Champion.
Trick Williams ran into The Undertaker earlier in the summer when he felt the wrath of the Deadman on an episode of NXT. He had made some disrespectful comments about the WWE Hall of Famer's LFG team and was on the receiving end of a chokeslam.
Taker still took time to praise Williams after their encounter and suggested the TNA Champion has a bright future. He wrote on X: "Last night wasn’t your night (Trick Williams) but the future is there for your taking. It was a pleasure sharing the ring with you."
Last night wasn’t your night @_trickwilliams, but the future is there for your taking. It was a pleasure sharing the ring with you, now go get yours young man…just leave my LFG team alone! pic.twitter.com/KEo8FjnfeT— Undertaker (@undertaker) July 23, 2025
Williams transitioned to wrestling from football before arriving in NXT in September 2021. He was partnered with Carmelo Hayes before splitting from the SmackDown star and staying put in developmental while his former tag partner headed up to the main roster.
Undertaker and Booker T are two important names regarding whom they see as the future of the business. Both still work in WWE in significant roles, particularly Taker, who is running AAA's creative and working closely with Triple H and Shawn Michaels.
