One Of WWE's Recently Released Superstars Could Show Up At Backlash

WWE has released a lot of Superstars over the course of the past two weeks, but none of those releases were more surprising than that of Kairi Sane. Not only was Sane a talented top star in WWE, but she was an integral part of a storyline that ran through WrestleMania and is now awkwardly continuing without her.

Kairi Sane Might Be At Backlash

There's a chance WWE is painfully aware of that, as, according to the Wrestling Observer's Bryan Alvarez, there's a strong chance Sane returns at Backlash this weekend. "Within WWE, it’s felt there is a better than 50 percent chance that Kairi shows up at Backlash to at least finish off that storyline," Alvarez tweeted.

An expansion on Alvarez's comments has been shared on WON's website, where it's noted that it is currently unknown if Sane's potential return will be a one-off appearance or if it will lead to something more. If Sane is being brought back in just days after being released, it wouldn't be the first time that has happened in recent memory.

Last year, R-Truth was shown the door by WWE immediately after competing against John Cena on his retirement tour. The negative reaction to Truth's release was so fierce that WWE backtracked and rehired him. Although the backlash hasn't been quite as vociferous for Sane, segments between Asuka and Iyo Sky during the build to their match this weekend have been dominated by chants requesting WWE to reinstate Sane.

Iyo Sky And Asuka's Feud Is Weird And Awkward Without Sane

The ongoing angle placed Sane square in the middle of Asuka and Sky, with the two of them effectively competing for her loyalty. Asuka and Sky will clash at Backlash this weekend, but with Sane suddenly and inexplicably gone, storyline-wise, it's unclear why exactly they're wrestling one another.

The reason for Sane's sudden departure is also unclear. It's possible that The Pirate Princess wanted to return to Japan, and WWE released her from her contract so that could happen. Sane has responded to fans multiple times since leaving the company, noting that she hears their support. It's possible she has seen those messages and decided to return for one night to put a bow on the angle that was left unfinished by her leaving.

It's not guaranteed that Sane will be a part of the proceedings at Backlash, but whatever the reason for her departure, I hope that she wasn't simply shown the door like some others and that she's able to come back on Saturday to wrap things up.
