Before they both signed with WWE, Penta and Rey Fenix were a package deal. They were known as The Lucha Brothers, and across several different promotions, including AEW, they held tag team gold. In a recent interview, Penta was asked if WWE fans would ever see the two tag together, and he was optimistic about it happening.
The subject of the two tagging together again came up while Penta was speaking to Baby Huey on In The Kliq. He said:
“We enjoy all different stops. My brother is on SmackDown, I’m on Raw. I know in my heart, one day, when the Lucha Brothers (reunite), the world will explode. When? I don’t know. How? I don’t know, but I’m sure. I feel it in my heart that the day when the Lucha Brothers tag team…it’s simple, the best tag team in the universe return in the best company in the universe.” (h/t: Fightful)
Penta is currently on RAW, while Fenix is on the SmackDown brand. Penta signed with WWE in late December 2024 and would make his official debut on the January 13 episode of WWE Monday Night RAW. He would get a win over Chad Gable, which started a whole feud that now includes four different El Grande Americano characters. Fenix signed on March 21 and made his debut on the April 4, 2025, episode of WWE SmackDown.
The Lucha Brothers mostly tagged together from 2017 to 2024. Before signing with AEW in 2019, Penta and Fenix wrestled in several promotions, including TNA Wrestling, Major League Wrestling, and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. They still occasionally wrestled in AAA even after signing with AEW.
The last time the brothers wrestled together was on the July 19, 2024, episode of AEW Rampage, where in the main event, they defeated Private Party (Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen). In AEW, they feuded with the likes of The Young Bucks and FTR.
They held the Ring of Honor Tag Team Titles, the AEW World Trios Championship with PAC, the AEW Tag Team Titles, the AAA World Tag Team Titles twice, and they were the Impact World Tag Team Champions. Now, with WWE’s partnership with TNA Wrestling and the acquisition of AAA, there are so many reasons for the Lucha Brothers to reunite. The WWE tag team division could also use the brothers. At the moment, the WWE Tag Team Champions are the Wyatt Sicks, and that could make up an interesting match-up.
