Oba Femi has officially vacated the NXT Championship.
After defeating Leon Slater in the main event of NXT New Year’s Evil, Femi left the title lying in the center of the ring—a deliberate, symbolic moment WWE made sure viewers noticed. The broadcast cut to Robert Stone informing NXT General Manager Ava as she addressed Evolve talent, framing the vacant championship as part of NXT’s wider push toward the future of 2026.
Femi’s rise has felt inevitable. At December’s Saturday Night’s Main Event , on a night centered around John Cena’s final match, Femi made it clear why Cena wanted the spotlight pointed forward. Against Cody Rhodes, Femi didn’t just belong—he thrived. The Washington, D.C. crowd rallied behind him as if they already knew what was coming.
Now, even his entrance has taken on a life of its own. Videos of fans mimicking Oba Femi’s walk—strutting into kitchens and living rooms with his unmistakable bounce—have gone viral across TikTok and Instagram.
Signed in late 2021 through WWE's Next in Line program, Femi is living proof that WWE’s in-house development model works. He didn’t come up through the independents. He isn’t a Sami Zayn or a Seth Rollins. He was built from the ground up—and it shows.
At just 27 years old, Femi is entering the prime window of his career. For perspective, The Rock was only 30 when he stepped away as a full-time performer. A lot can happen in your late twenties.
Which brings us to a bold prediction: Oba Femi should retire Brock Lesnar.
If Cena’s recent slip on What Do You Wanna Talk About? with Cody Rhodes was accurate, Lesnar’s career could conclude this summer at SummerSlam in Minneapolis. The symmetry would be perfect. Lesnar was rocketed to the top in his mid-twenties, defeating legends like The Rock, The Undertaker, and Hulk Hogan in his rookie year. Passing that torch back to a dominant, homegrown force like Oba Femi would be a fitting final chapter.

All signs point to Femi landing on Monday Night Raw, where a global Netflix audience awaits. And with his 2025 NXT main event counterpart Trick Williams already debuting on SmackDown and Je'Von Evans on Raw, this latest class of NXT call-ups will add lemon pepper to WWE's roster.
They’re about to become the center of WWE storytelling—and Femi will be the ruler.
