R-Truth & Damian Priest Secures WWE Tag Team Titles on SmackDown

On the March 20, 2026 edition of WWE SmackDown, R-Truth and Damian Priest finally did it, seeing their unlikely pairing bear fruit on this past Friday night against MFT. Truth and Priest aren’t exactly the Road Warriors if you think of it. The pairing was just two stars who happened to form a friendship that eventually led to them becoming an oddball tag team and eventually securing a number one contender’s slot against Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga of MFT, the WWE Tag Team Champions.

Suffice it to say, everyone was counting out Damian Priest and R-Truth before they ever stepped into the ring for their WWE Tag Team Title match on this week’s SmackDown. However, after a hard-fought battle with the well-oiled machine that is My Family Tree, Truth and Priest managed to pull it off somehow, becoming the #AndNEW WWE Tag Team Champions of the world.

MFT has been dominant since they won the WWE Tag Team Championship. However, on this night, R-Truth and Damian Priest had a lot more firepower and a little help along the way. Truth and Priest came out of the gate on fire, with Truth even whipping out some vintage John Cena offense and executing a Stone Cold Stunner. Unfortunately, that sequence was interrupted by Solo Sikoa, who distracted the referee, allowing Talla Tonga to perform a Chokeslam on Truth on the edge of the ring.

The deck was stacked against Truth and Priest from the start, with the sheer numbers of MFT. But payback is a, you know, and The Wyatt Sicks would even the odds for Truth and Priest. Uncle Howdy would get Sikoa in the Mandible Claw, prompting JC Mateo to get distracted and help Solo keep the lantern. The obsession to keep the lantern cost them big-time, allowing Truth to hit the Attitude Adjustment, helping him and Priest become the #AndNEW WWE Tag Team Champions.

This is one amazing story, considering the makeshift nature of their partnership and winning the titles in only their time tagging together.
