  • WWE is hesitant to turn Cody Rhodes heel despite The Rock's suggestion.
  • Cody Rhodes may return to WWE SmackDown as a babyface seeking revenge.
  • Cody Rhodes is expected to be a central focus in WWE programming this summer.

According to a report, there is strong opposition internally within WWE to turn Cody Rhodes heel, despite The Rock pitching the idea during the creative build-up to John Cena's heel turn. The Rock insisted they could revisit Cody "selling his soul", but WWE isn't sure that's the best play for the face of their company and the star who sells an incredible amount of merchandise as a babyface.

Should WWE Turn Cody Rhodes Heel?

There's speculation heading into Friday's episode of WWE SmackDown that Cody Rhodes will return to television. The question is, will Cody Rhodes become a heel and WWE, or will he return as a baby face looking to get even on someone like John Cena, The Rock, or another star who was directly linked to his losing the WWE Championship?

An argument can be made that Cody should come back as a heel after getting screwd out the title. It could make sense from a storyline perspective, and potentially lead to a double turn where Cena goes back to being a babyface. That said, Cody doesn't seem to want it and WWE has real concerns about making that move.

According to a report by Fightful Select, "WWE has been very happy with the way Cody Rhodes has moved tickets and merch as a babyface." They add, "Despite what The Rock said about possibly revisiting Cody Rhodes selling his soul and a heel turn, WWE sources told Fightful Select say that isn't in current creative plans."

So What Are The Plans For Cody Rhodes?

Buzz is that Cody will return to SmackDown on Friday as he's still being advertised for the show. Per WrestleVotes, Cody Rhodes is set to return to WWE programming very soon likely before Money in the Bank and will be a central focus throughout the entire summer.

He won't have the championship, but if he wins Money in the Bank, he'll have a title shot in waiting and a chance to win back the belt at any time over the next calendar year.
