After 20 years of dedicated service to the world of wrestling, we have reached the end. This Saturday, the wrestling world will pay homage to one of its greats when John Cena steps into the squared circle for the last time. It is the finale match of a storied career, and one that has been anticipated for well over a year now.
In true John Cena form, he has insisted that this night not only be about him, but about showcasing the tremendous young talent that WWE has. Cena wants the company to get the spotlight instead of himself hogging it, a classy move to say the least.
This Saturday Night’s Main event is going to finish off 2025 on a high note and should be the most explosive show of the year. Not only does the world get to see one of the greats say his final goodbye, but they will also get to see the next crop of wrestlers to lead WWE into the future. It will be the perfect ending to WWE’s 2025, and here’s why you should be watching.
The last battle for John Cena is not the only massive drawing point to Saturday Night’s Main Event. It will be a night of celebrating, not only for Cena’s career but also for the next wave of talent. The biggest of which will be WWE Champion Cody Rhodes going one-on-one with NXT Champion Oba Femi.
Femi taking on Rhodes presents a very intriguing contest for the world. They represent the best of their brands, and a matchup that no one has seen before. There is a stark contrast in style between the two men, which should give us a great match to watch. It will be interesting to see which role Rhodes and Femi will play in their match.
Will we see a straight-up face versus face match, or will one of the champions go against type and dip into the heel pool? It’s one of the interesting questions surrounding the contest.
It’s not very often that the Champion versus Champion trope is brought out, and this could be the best of them. Cody Rhodes and Oba Femi have never locked horns, and this is a massive stage for them to do so. It will be a great appetizer for John Cena’s last stand.
A roadblock to three matches headed into Saturday is that there is no build behind the contest. Luckily, this tag team match doesn’t need any build to have an aura of excitement around it.
A.J. Styles, Dragon Lee, Je ‘Von Evans & Leon Slater are going to tear the house down; that’s a guarantee. It has been proven that these men can deliver an amazing performance, even when the crowd expects it each time they step through the gorilla. In recent weeks, we have seen Styles & Lee exhibit tremendous chemistry. The finish to their defense against The New Day was fantastic, and we can expect to see a lot more of this come Saturday.
Speaking of chemistry, the men who will be standing across from Styles and Lee have it in spades. Je’Von Evans and Leon Slater have been teaming for the better part of 2025, turning in great performances at Halloween Havoc and NXT Gold Rush. They are the perfect pair to take on the Tag Champions. A pair that can match the intensity, wrestling skill, and fast-paced nature that the champs are going to employ.
Bayley and Sol Ruca are the match of positive energy versus positive energy. In NXT and WWE, Bayley was the ultra-positive character that captured the hearts of the world. Yes, that character has evolved some, but the bedrock is still there, and this Saturday she will meet her match. Sol Ruca is another wrestler who exudes positive vibes. It will be fun to see these two meet in the middle of the ring at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Sol Ruca is still a bit green, but she has the skill set necessary to become a huge star in WWE. We have seen the seeds of this planted in his push on the black and gold brand. Putting her with Bayley will give her a proven veteran to work off and will rejuvenate the former Hugger. It will be a true battle between a veteran and a rising star. Two women who don’t have a ton of history but are looking to make some. This will be a gem that will be talked about for years.
The three undercard matches will be fantastic, but the whole world will be tuning in to see one of WWE’s greatest wrestlers compete in his very last contest. John Cena has been a staple of WWE programming for over 2 decades, becoming one of the most beloved men in wrestling history.
Polarizing figure, yes, but one that would always get massive reactions from a devoted portion of the audience. As his career went on, he gained respect from the entire WWE universe, and the cheers were deafening.
Anytime a WWE legend competes in their last match, it’s a big deal. The match is a celebration of everything that they have accomplished, and it’s the last chance to acknowledge what they have done for wrestling. On Saturday, the world will get the opportunity to let John Cena know how much he has meant to wrestling and to each one of us.
Cena still has some left in the tank, so this match should be a fitting end to his career. It will be the best way for the G.O.A.T. to ride off into the sunset.
No one wants to give back to wrestling more than John Cena. In his early days, he was pushed hard, and now he is using that stroke to better everyone around him. During his retirement tour, he has elevated everyone around him, using his clout to make the younger generation shine. It’s an admirable quality, but one that might end his last match on a sour note.
As we march towards Saturday, the prevailing thought is that John Cena will ride off into the sunset victorious, but will he? WWE has been known to swerve the world when it comes to its booking, and what better way to do that than have John Cena stare up at the lights? To be honest, it would be an idea that John Cena would go for, being the one who wants to highlight the next generation.
It’s a 50/50 shot of how this match could go. Gunther is a big star, and a victory against Cena would catapult him into the stratosphere. But how can anyone not want the G.O.A.T. to get a victory in his career finale? WWE has painted itself into a corner here, and we can’t wait to see how John Cena’s last match will play out.
