Seth Rollins ' match against LA Knight at Saturday Night's Main Event came to an abrupt end, seemingly because The Architect tweaked his knee, a body part he has had issues with for years. The full scale of just how serious the injury is will likely be revealed at some point today. However, there's a chance that the whole thing was just an angle that's being used to cover for a different, less serious injury.
That's according to a new report courtesy of Wrestling Observer Radio's Brayn Alvarez (via WrestlePurists). According to Alvarez, the ending of the match between Rollins and Knight went exactly as planned. The wrestling journalist claims while Rollins is injured, the injury happened before the match, and WWE is effectively using this angle to cover for it and give a storyline reason for Rollins being away.
If true, what injury Rollins is suffering from exactly isn't clear. However, he will be receiving treatment while he's out, all while WWE continues to point to the freak incident at Main Event as the reason for his absnece. Smart since it's believable due to Rollins' history of knee issues, but even more so because the company can potentially make Rollins look like a superhero in the process.
WWE is painting it like Rollins has suffered a similar knee injury to the one that kept him out for almost a year. That means, when we get the bad news later today, it will likely be confirmed that we won't be seeing Rollins again until 2026, possibly not even until after WrestleMania 42. However, if the injury he's actually recovering from is far less serious, he can return sooner and then proceed to brag about how hard he worked and how quickly he healed.
Unless the real injury is a very minor one that Rollins can recover from in a matter of weeks rather than months, this will still be a blow for WWE. Not only is Rollins one of the top guys in the company, but he's leading a heel faction and currently holds the men's Money in the Bank contract. If he really is going to be out for the better part of a year, he may even have to relenquish that.
My hope, if this new report is accurate, is that when Rollins unexpectedly returns way ahead of schedule, it's for a blockbuster cash-in. It will take something really special to match, let alone top, his heist of the century from WrestleMania 31. A cash-in four months into a nine-month recovery period might do the trick.
