Rey Mysterio Returns to WWE Performance Center After Injury
Dominik Mysterio WWE RAW September 2025

WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio is looking to make his in-ring comeback. He's been out of action since April due to undergoing surgery to fix a torn abductor muscle. So that's the reason why fans haven't seen him in a match in some time. His last appearances were for Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, where he opened Worlds Collide in June and inducted Konnan into the AAA Hall of Fame at TripleMania XXXIII.

Rey Mysterio Returns To The WWE Performance Center

According to PWInsider Elite via WrestlePurists, Mysterio is expected at the WWE Performance sometime this week. He is working towards getting cleared so he can return to the ring.

The last time the 50-year-old was in the ring was on the April 18, 2025, episode of SmackDown, where he, Dragon Lee, and Rey Fenix defeated Brutus Creed, Chad Gable, and Julius Creed. This was actually the match where he was injured, which caused him to miss WrestleMania 41. He was supposed to be in a match against El Grande Americano, but Fenix instead took his place. The match ended with Fenix losing to El Grande Americano.

The year before, at WrestleMania XL, Rey teamed with former WWE Superstar Andrade to defeat Dominik Mysterio and Santos Escobar.

Rey’s Son Dominik Is Thriving In Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide & WWE

Dominik Mysterio WWE RAW September 2025

Speaking of Dominik, he’s been pulling double duty for both WWE and AAA. Not only that, but he only recently became the AAA Mega Champion. He defeated El Hijo del Vikingo at the AAA x WWE Worlds Collide event in Las Vegas to become the new champion. The event was on September 12. As noted, before AAA x WWE Worlds Collide, Rey had spoken about how he could see Dominik in the future becoming the greatest Mysterio of all time. He noted how Dom would make it closer by winning the Mega Title, which he did. Rey said:

"He will start breaking ground to become potentially the greatest Mysterio of all time. That's always a possibility, and if he does it this Friday, he'll be getting closer and closer to that goal."

So even though the two have been feuding since 2022 after Dominik notoriously turned heel and joined Judgment Day, Rey is still proud of his son’s accolades.

In that same interview, which aired on the RAW Recap before Worlds Collide, Rey spoke about how, in his four years with AAA, he never won the Mega Title. So Dom did something his father hadn’t done in his 34-year-old career. Dom is also the WWE Intercontinental Champion. So maybe when Rey comes back and is ready for in-ring action, fans can see the father and son fight over the Mega Championship or the WWE Intercontinental Title.
