Ricochet joining AEW feels like a foregone conclusion

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Ricochet's contract with WWE officially expired on Monday.

He is now a free agent. He last appeared on WWE television on June 10, 2024, where a segment with Bron Breakker saw him leave in an ambulance. WWE has now moved him to the alumni section of their website

Since news of Ricochet's contract situation became public, his arrival in AEW has felt inevitable. Will Ospreay has previously discussed his desire to see the high-flyer join the company. His wrestling style would fit perfectly with the brand Tony Khan likes to produce.

Now that he is officially free to negotiate terms, Ricochet's future feels like a foregone conclusion. He will undoubtedly field offers from TNA and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Yet, AEW can offer him ready-made storylines, a global audience and a significant paycheck.

The fact that Ospreay is on the roster will help convince Ricochet, too. Ospreay isn't the only high-flyer that would be there to welcome Ricochet. Rey Fenix recently returned from a prolonged injury layoff and has looked sharp. Eventually, Sammy Guevara will make a return. Between those three and Richochet, AEW would have an elite staple of high-flyers that can wow fans in the arena and watching at home.

Nevertheless, if Ricochet does join AEW, Khan must find a consistent role. He has spent far too long as a mid-card talent with WWE, and he will want a bigger upside in his next spot. Ricochet might not be a world champion-level character, but he could easily hold the international or TNT championship. Finding opportunities for him will be paramount if AEW wants to get the best out of him.

If all goes well, Ricochet will show up for AEW soon. Ospreay will get his dream rematch, and the roster will continue to grow. Figuring out what to do next has been an issue for the company.

One can only hope Ricochet's arrival starts to force the creative team to put some plans in place.
