For the past couple of months, Rusev and Sheamus have been at odds with one another. The former members of The League of Nations first clashed after Rusev’s match with Akira Tozawa, as he terrorized Alpha Academy in his first weeks back in WWE. That attracted the attention of Sheamus, who didn’t like to see his former friend act like he that. They’ve had a series of matches over the past couple of months.
Rusev won the first, and Sheamus won the second. However, the rubber match attempts haven’t gone according to plan. The past two Monday Night Raw’s have ended with both men brawling outside of the ring without a finish.
Given their current mutual hatred towards one another, this has been a tremendous booking. Their rivalry is the blueprint for heated exchanges for many reasons that have made them good television for everyone.
Whenever two heated rivals are in a feud with each other, the majority of the action happens in the ring. It could be a blindsided attack or an injury attempt. If they’re in a match together, there’s usually a winner because each person is determined to get the victory.
In the case of Rusev and Sheamus, they don’t care about winning or losing. They just want to beat each other up, instantly getting enraged when they see each other. Last week, they brawled multiple times backstage, unwilling to let each other go.
Now on Monday, they fought through the crowd after Sheamus attacked Rusev after Sami Zayn was pulled out of the ring by the MFTs. The two men aren’t willing to finish their fight in the ring. A true rivalry should be full of anger, which has been the case for Rusev and Sheamus.
With two failed attempts at a decisive victory, it seems that Adam Pearce’s hands will be tied. There has to be a winner between the two men. But their level of animosity towards each other opens up the possibility of many match stipulations.
The two men could go for a Falls Count Anywhere match, given the fact that they have extended their fighting outside of the ring. They could also have a No Disqualification match, so they can beat each other up without consequences.
Those two match types would increase the damage they could inflict on each other. A Steel Cage match is reserved for wrestlers with a similar level of hatred. That could also be a possibility for their final match, allowing for maximum pain via the steel cage. Either way, it seems like their inevitable match will have a much-needed stipulation attached.
Rusev and Sheamus will have one final match shortly. Perhaps it’ll be in two weeks at Clash in Paris. Maybe it’ll be at the rumored Bad Blood PLE on September 20. News about that just started going around on Monday, so nothing has been confirmed by anyone just yet.
Whenever it happens, it’ll surely be much anticipated given their actions in recent weeks. To effectively build a feud based on hatred, fans need to see the two wrestlers go at each other whenever and wherever they can.
The two men have made that happen, with brawls happening outside the ring two weeks in a row. It’ll be interesting to see how quickly Adam Pearce deals with them. He always has a lot on his plate, so it might not happen next week. But when the match gets finalized, it’ll be worth the wait.
