Seth Rollins is set to undergo surgery after sustaining a shoulder injury, and WWE has reportedly penciled in a potential return date for the World Heavyweight Champion. The Visionary looks set to vacate his title as a result of the injury, which caused a quicker end to his role as The Vision's leader than expected.
Rollins' injury has come at an awful time, given he starred as the world champion on RAW while leading the biggest stable in the company. He was also amid a feud with CM Punk, who won a number one contender's match the same night he was betrayed by The Vision.
The 39-year-old won't be facing Punk at Saturday Night's Main Event (November 1) as he'll be going under the knife. Dave Meltzer gave an update on the situation and delved into plans while speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio:
"He's having surgery, that's 100%. And when they open up, they'll find out, they don't know all the damage in his shoulder, and they will find out the damage when they open him up, and when they do the surgery, they'll have an idea."
Rollins was expected to continue as the leader of The Vision heading into Survivor Series WarGames (November 29). There were reportedly plans for him to captain a team against Roman Reigns's own team in the main event.
He won't be featuring in San Diego next month, but Meltzer suggested WWE are hopeful he'll be able to make their biggest show next year:
"I guess the best way to put it is they hope he'll be okay for WrestleMania. There's no way of knowing one way or the other today whether he will be or not. But he's out for months for sure."
Rollins was reportedly expected to face Reigns at WrestleMania 42 until he sustained his shoulder injury at Crown Jewel in Perth, Australia (October 11). If he is out until the Show of Shows, it means he could be on the shelf for around five months, with the Royal Rumble taking place in January.
It seems that Rollins will officially be relinquishing the World Heavyweight Championship on RAW tonight (October 20) in the Golden Center in Sacramento, California. There's no word on whether he'll be live in person, but general manager Adam Pearce is advertised to address the situation.
Rollins was ambushed by his former stablemates, Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed, at the end of RAW last week. This appeared to write him off TV, and it makes sense for WWE to use the betrayal as the reason behind his shoulder injury and lean into this new version of The Vision.
All eyes will be on who Punk faces for the World Heavyweight Championship at Saturday Night's Main Event. Breakker may be named as his opponent, as he grabbed hold of the title after he attacked Rollins.
