Seth Rollins vs. Cody Rhodes Announced for WWE Crown Jewel: Perth

During the Wrestlepalooza post-show, WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins got into Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes' face. Later in the show, Triple H confirmed the two would clash to determine who is the Men’s 2025 Crown Jewel Champion.

Last year’s Crown Jewel took place at the Mohammed Abdo Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Cody became the inaugural Men’s Crown Jewel Champion; he defeated Gunther to earn it. The first-ever Women’s Crown Jewel Champion was Liv Morgan, who defeated Nia Jax. While 2024 marked the first Men’s and Women’s Crown Jewel Champions, WWE has actually been doing the events since November 2018.

Cody Wins While Seth Loses At Wrestlepalooza

In the main event, Rhodes was successful in defending his title against Drew McIntyre, which cemented him to go on to Crown Jewel. He won the match by hitting McIntyre with a Cody Cutter and the Cross Rhodes. Earlier, McIntyre had attempted to replicate what he did to him on the August 8 episode of SmackDown, hitting him with a Claymore and sending him through the bottom of the announce table, but it didn’t work this time. McIntyre missed, and he hurt his knee, which allowed Rhodes to gain the upper hand.

Rollins, on the other hand, wasn’t defending his WWE World Heavyweight Title, but was in a mixed tag team match that included him pairing with his wife, WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch, to face CM Punk and AJ Lee. The match did not go in Rollins and Lynch’s favor.

AJ Lee got the win for her and Punk, by countering Lynch’s Man Handle Slam into a Black Widow. She then forced Lynch to tap out. This was AJ Lee’s first match since 2015. She made her return on the September 5 episode of SmackDown. AJ Lee became the solution to Punk’s problem with Lynch. It was Lynch who cost him the title at Clash in Paris. Lynch would later slap him on television and harass him.

So that match was a highlight for fans watching the first WWE main roster PLE to stream on ESPN’s new direct-to-consumer service. Maybe Cody’s wife, Brandy, will have to come back to wrestle if Lynch starts to harass him ahead of Crown Jewel.
