Team 3D vs. The Hardys: More Than One Last Match at TNA Bound For Glory

The final chapter in the legendary rivalry between The Hardys and Team 3D will be written at TNA Bound For Glory. After Matt and Jeff Hardy recaptured the TNA World Tag Team Championship in a wild Ladder Match at Slammiversary, they were confronted by Bully Ray, who laid out the challenge for one last match between two of the most accomplished tag teams in professional wrestling history.

The Hardys have accepted, and the match has been made official for TNA Wrestling’s biggest event of the year. When all is said and done, will it be The Hardys or Team 3D who stand tall in victory? Recently on iMPACT!, The Hardys and Team 3D upped the ante during The Final Negotiation. This bout will now be a Tables Match with The Hardys’ TNA World Tag Team Championship on the line.

A Historic Match

The story between these two teams has lasted for more than 25 years. Alongside the team of Edge and Christian, they popularized the TLC matches. In 1999, the particular weapons of tables, ladders, and chairs were seen as unique to each team’s style.

The Hardys were seen as high-flying daredevils with a penchant for using ladders, the Dudley Boyz would often use tables as weapons, and Edge and Christian became notable for using steel chairs in tandem against opponents.

The Hardy Boyz faced The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley) at the Royal Rumble 2000, in a violent and chaotic tag-team Tables match, where ladders and chairs were used as much as tables. The TLC matches have since become a “classic” in the wrestling business.

25 Years Later, One Last Match…

Matt and Jeff Hardy are respectively 51 and 48, D-Von and Bully Ray are 54 and 53. Their bodies have survived years of broken tables, ladders, jumps, and chair shots. They proved more than once that they are a part of “professional wrestling tag-team royalty,” as Santino Marella said on iMPACT, “two of the greatest tag teams of all time.” Before the Final Negotiation, the crowd couldn’t resist, “This is awesome.”

The Hardys acknowledged Team 3D as the most decorated tag team of all time (24 titles vs 15 for the Hardys). WWE and TNA Hall of Famers Team 3D acknowledged that TNA is white hot because of the Hardys. Matt Hardy said that, to cement their legacy, the Hardys need to beat Team 3D. Bully Ray confirmed that Team 3D has made a lot of history with these guys.

D-Von and Matt Hardy remembered some great moments of their history, to the point of Bully Ray asking Jeff, “After all the crazy stuff we’ve done, how are you still alive?!” Matt noted Jeff is an anomaly. They put the nostalgia aside. They may be the two GOAT teams, but the Hardys are ready to acknowledge that Team 3D is the greatest of all time if they lose at Bound For Glory.

Then, the Hardys decided to put the titles on the line when Team 3D offered a stipulation to the match. The crowd chanted, “We want tables!” D-Von and Bully Ray followed. The Bound For Glory match will be the same as the Royal Rumble 2000 one, but 25 years later. This match is going to be something special, epic, and historical; Santino Marella is absolutely right about it.
