The Rock makes key admission over John Cena's final match

John Cena, one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, has four more dates remaining in his WWE career, with his retirement match set to take place on Dec. 15.

As that date has drawn closer, speculation about who his final opponent will be has run rampant. However, as things currently stand, there is no update on who Cena will face. To make matters worse, the WWE hasn't kept him involved in a storyline, thus making his final foe even more challenging to predict.

During a recent guest appearance on the "New Heights" podcast, hosted by Jason and Travis Kelce, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson revealed that Cena will have the final say on who he will face in his farewell bout.

"I have a tiny bit of influence in the booking of it, but really it's whoever John wants," Johnson said. "That's what it comes down to. Whoever he wants. That should be who it is....It's not me, Nick Khan, or Triple H. It's whoever John wants. That guy has earned it. The best part about John is that he comes as advertised. Who you think he is, that's who he is. He's a good dude, and I love that guy."

Cena has endured multiple feuds throughout his career. Therefore, it's hard to fathom who he could choose to stand toe-to-toe with on what will undoubtedly be a match that is replayed for decades.

The only match Cena should avoid is Brock Lesnar. The squash match at Wrestlepalooza could have been setting up a showdown between the two rivals. However, WWE dropped the ball so badly that they shouldn't be allowed to dip back into that.

Cena shouldn't be re-treading opponents either. If he's already faced them during his retirement run, they should be off-limits. Funnily enough, The Rock himself would make a good opponent — "The Final Boss" for Cena's final day.

Regardless of who his last opponent winds up being, Cena should retire from wrestling as a winner. WWE owes him that much after his years of service and dedication. Beyond that, we should all enjoy the ride, as once that final bell rings, we won't ever get the chance to experience Cena in action again.
