TNA iMPACT! Preview (6/19/25) – 23 Candles
TNA Wrestling

On June 19, 2002, NWA Total Nonstop Action first episode aired on TV. AJ Styles, Lo-Ki, Ken Shamrock, James Storm, Konnan, and, of course, one of the founders of TNA, Jeff Jarrett, were on the card. Twenty-three years later, the company remains in place. TNA has built legacies, turned wrestlers into Superstars, and it’s far from over.

On the June 17 edition of NXT, Elijah was teaming up with Josh Briggs and Yoshiki Inamura against TNA World Champion Trick Williams and First Class. As KC Navarro was unable to compete, Wes Lee replaced him. Lee inadvertently collided with Williams, and Yoshiki Inamura pinned TNA World Champion Trick Williams.

After the match, Inamura unveiled his plans to see him become the NXT Champion and Briggs become the TNA World Champion. Inamura donated his TNA World Title opportunity to Briggs, and the match was made official by Director of Authority Santino Marella for next Tuesday on NXT.

As TNA Wrestling launches a new TNA+ free tier, this 23rd anniversary could be the last time we see Trick Williams as the TNA Champion. That means Nygma will have to reveal her ugly-laughing secret soon.

The Stakes at TNA Wrestling

Fresh off the chaos that ended last week’s broadcast, the Champions Challenge returns. TNA World Champion Trick Williams, TNA International Champion Steve Maclin, TNA X-Division Champion Moose, and TNA World Tag Team Champions The Nemeths join forces in a massive 10-Man Tag against Joe Hendry, Elijah, The Rascalz, and Leon Slater. With Trick set to defend the TNA World Championship against Josh Briggs on WWE NXT, can he keep momentum on his side?

It’s Champion vs. Champion as Knockouts World Champion Masha Slamovich joins forces with Léi Ying Lee to take on Knockouts World Tag Team Champions Ash and Heather of The Elegance Brand. With Killer Kelly waiting in the wings, can Slamovich stay focused? Or will The Elegance Brand make a statement of its own?

TNA’s Director of Authority, Santino Marella, has already made waves since defeating NXT’s Robert Stone to be reinstated as the official TNA Director of Authority. What will the DOA have to say?

After being challenged by Eddie Edwards and JDC, Matt Cardona returns to the iMPACT Zone in tag team action, but who will stand by his side? With Alisha Edwards and Brian Myers lurking at ringside, this matchup could turn into a System-style ambush… or a major shake-up on TNA IMPACT!

Eric Young, backed by The Northern Armory, goes to war with Sami Callihan in a clash rooted in history and fueled by a shared disdain for the TNA World Champion Trick Williams. Mustafa Ali, John Skyler, Jason Hotch, and Tasha Steelz step into the spotlight during an exclusive Order 4 Summit.

What’s next for the group that continues manipulating the TNA Wrestling landscape? And what fallout remains from their recent dissension?

The Nygma’s View

I tend to think Santino Marella will be the one to blow out the 23 candles of the TNA birthday cake. Whatever he may say, Nygma drinks his words (the French way to say, hang on Santino’s every word), so, as I love to say, let them eat cake. Unless “something” happens…

There couldn’t be an anniversary show without Eric Young. Even if he joined the company in 2004, the TNA’s spirit runs through his veins. I can say the same about Sami Callihan, who arrived in late 2017 but literally put the company on his shoulders to help it become what it is today.

I’ve always had the utmost respect for both of them. One is my 13-day-plus twin brother. The other is everything I love in this business, a wrestling heart and soul (guess who’s who). Even if they both have a Trick in mind (if only you knew what it means in French), Nygma says: This is what I call a true TNA match.

Matt Cardona will team up with a mystery partner against The System. When a match turns into a 4 vs 2, because it will, expect some interferences and a brawl. Nygma says: The System is so predictable…

The way Mustafa Ali treated the ones I used to call his goons has been disgusting. Jason Hotch, John Skyler, and Tasha Steelz are not Ali’s “goons,” they’re utterly talented wrestlers. Whoever “he” may be, I expect him to come and spank Ali. Nygma says: Bad boys deserve a spank, so for dirty boys, one will never be enough.

Moose retained the X-Division Championship in Mexico when Hendry and the Nemeths failed. They will all participate in the Champions vs Challengers match. This match brings up 2 questions to my Nygma’s mind.

First, who are Elijah and Joe Hendry, the challengers of? For Leon Slater and The Rascalz, I get it, but what about Hendry and Elijah? Nygma says: If I tend to think it’s two for Trick and Trick for two (these Trick things are funnily going too far), who’s next for Maclin?

Second, why are the Knockouts not in this match? It should have been an 8 vs 8 match, the intergender way. Instead, Masha Slamovich has “the chance to team with her warrior friend, Lei Ying Lee, against The Elegance brand.

Chance because it’s pure irony, as Slamovich and Lee will have the fun of their lives doing a massacre of their powdered faces and hair-sprayed headdresses. Nygma says: The Elegance brand must be sponsored by Queen Marie-Antoinette.

The Road to Slammiversary is on now, so let’s go for the second stop of our 6-iMPACT ride. I’ll see you on Friday for TNA iMPACT! “After The Bell,” and also this weekend, as TNA taps new episodes this Friday and Saturday. Till then, may the Nygma be with you.
