TNA iMPACT 5/8 Recap: Joe Hendry Brawls With Trick Williams, Dog Collar Title Match

WWE NXT star Trick Williams has targeted TNA World Champion Joe Hendry in recent weeks. Was Hendry able to get the better of Williams on TNA iMPACT? Williams got the show started on Thursday, and he wasn’t alone.

Joe Hendry and Trick Williams Brawl

Williams was in the ring surrounded by security. He bragged about the attention he gets from women before gloating about ambushing Hendry. He called Hendry “average Joe.” Williams said he wants to be respected, while Hendry wants to be liked. Williams vowed to take Hendry’s title, his fans, and his brand.

Hendry heard enough, and he walked down the ramp. The TNA champion took out members of the security team and went after Williams. The two brawled inside the ring before Williams escaped. Hendry lifted one of the security staffers up and dropped him with Standing Ovation.

Robert Stone Micromanages Santino Marella

Robert Stone and Victoria Crawford were backstage criticizing Santino Marella for booking a dog collar match between TNA International Champion Steve Maclin and Eric Young. Stone said it’s best for Crawford to handle her business before addressing Marella.

Lei Ying Lee vs. Rosemary

Xia Brookside was on commentary for this match. Rosemary slammed Lee down with a sidewalk slam early on. Rosemary bit the hand of her opponent before choking her with a reverse headscissors. Lee took a headbutt but responded with a flying knee, followed by a shotgun dropkick. Rosemary went for brass knuckles, but Brookside took the weapon away from her. This allowed Lee to hit Thunderstruck for the win.

Mike Santana and First Cla$$ Start Rivalry?

Backstage, Mike Santana and Trick Williams had an intense staredown. Santana then ran into Sami Callihan and a goblin in a suit. Santana praised Callihan for all he’s done in his career. Callihan said he appreciates it.

KC Navarro and AJ Francis walked in to speak to Callihan. The goblin then dissed Francis, calling him an ogre. Francis offered Callihan a spot in First Cla$$. Callihan refused the offer. Santana asked Francis if he had a problem with him. Francis said he solves problems.

Maggie Lee by Elegance

The Elegance brand gave Maggie Lee a makeover. The camera didn’t reveal the final product just yet.

The Great Hands vs. Aztec Warriors

Before the match began, The Great Hands said Mustafa Ali had changed since losing to Mike Santana. He said Ali apologizes for what might happen next. Laredo hit a springboard hurricanrana on Jason Hotch in the early going. Octagon Jr. was in, and he hit a corkscrew crossbody, followed by a springboard arm drag. John Skyler grabbed Octagon’s mask and slammed him to the mat.

Laredo and Skyler were tagged in. Laredo delivered slaps to both members of The Great Hands. The Aztec Warrior then hit a suicide dive into a springboard moonsault combo outside of the ring. The Aztec Warriors picked up the win with a stalling slingshot moonsault from Octagon on Skyler.

Winners: The Aztec Warriors

After the match, Ali ambushed The Aztec Warriors. Tasha Steelz attempted to calm Ali down. The Rascalz ran down to ensure the assault didn’t go further.

Mustafa Ali w/ The Great Hands and Tasha Steelz vs. Trey Miguel w/ Zachary Wentz

Ali walked through Miguel’s chops and dropped him with a roll-through powerbomb. Miguel got in some offense and went for a baseball slide, but Ali planted him with a draping DDT to the floor. Ali then hit his signature rolling neckbreaker, followed by a standing corkscrew.

Miguel countered another rolling neckbreaker attempt with a jumping cutter. He landed a springboard moonsault and then connected with a suicide dive. Ali barely kicked out of a meteora off the top turnbuckle. Ali directed The Great Hands to take Miguel out, but Wentz dove on the tag team. Ali then sent Wentz into the ring post. As he was talking trash, Miguel hit a suicide dive DDT.

While Tasha Steelz distracted the referee, The Great Hands planted Miguel on the ring apron. Ali took advantage and pinned Miguel.

Winner: Mustafa Ali

Indi Hartwell’s Journey to TNA

A video package aired for TNA’s newest star, Indi Hartwell. The former WWE superstar recalled being a TNA Wrestling fan for years. She recalled legendary names in the TNA Knockouts division. Hartwell said she’s proud to be a part of that history. Hartwell said she’s ready to show everyone what she’s capable of.

The Hardys Address Back-to-Back Losses to Nemeth Brothers

Matt Hardy said the fans help him and Jeff Hardy push through every match. He apologized for losing the TNA World Tag Team Championship. Matt said many have questioned the future of The Hardys. He said both he and his brother will climb their way back to the titles.

Nic and Ryan Nemeth made their way out after Matt vowed to delete their tag title reign. Ryan mocked The Hardys’ speech. He said The Hardys blew it, but it’s fine because he and Nic will take the TNA tag team division to new heights. The fans wouldn’t let Nic get a word in. Nic called The Hardys legends, but sometimes legends fall. The Nemeths claimed to run TNA. Nic offered The Hardys a rematch at “Under Siege” on May 23. Ryan then suggested making it a ladder match.

Nic mocked Jeff for being unable to make it to Canada due to his past history. The Nemeths then said it’s a shame the match can’t happen after all. Santino Marella then made his way out and said it’ll be Jeff vs. Nic one-on-one. He then booked The Nemeths against Matt and a partner of his choice for “Under Siege.”

Victoria Crawford’s TNA Debut

Crawford’s debut match in TNA was against Brittnie Brooks. Robert Stone was on commentary and bragged about using his connections to gain power in TNA.

Brooks extended her hand, but Crawford got in a cheap shot. Crawford hit her trademark Northern Lights Suplex. Brooks got in some offense before being dropped by the axe kick.

Winner: Victoria Crawford

Crawford grabbed the mic, but she was quickly interrupted by TNA Knockouts Champion Masha Slamovich. Slamovich took Crawford down to the canvas. Tessa Blanchard then landed Buzzsaw on Slamovich.

Santino Marella booked Blanchard and Crawford against Slamovich and a partner of her choosing next week. Stone got on the mic and said he’d be the one to pick Slamovich’s partner, and it’ll be Nikkita Lyons.

Robert Stone and Tessa Blanchard Strengthen Dynamic

Robert Stone was on the phone with Lyons, but the conversation was interrupted. Arianna Grace was upset with Stone and reminded him that she is the liaison for NXT. Blanchard then scolded Grace, saying she got a participation trophy.

Dog Collar Match: Steve Maclin (c) vs. Eric Young w/ The Northern Armory – for the TNA International Championship

A tug of war got things started, but Maclin immediately charged at Young and knocked him down. Matt Cardona was then shown on commentary—Young gained control by raking the face of his former friend with the chain. Maclin was already bloodied up.

A picture-in-picture look at Elijah carefully watching the match backstage was shown. Young then choked Maclin over the ring post. Travis Williams of The Northern Armory got in a cheap shot. Maclin rebounded with a suicide dive that took out the entire faction. Young yanked the chain, and Maclin went crashing onto the top rope.

Mance Warner and Steph de Lander were watching from the ramp. Ace Austin then joined Elijah in watching the match. Maclin finally got in some offense, taking out Judas Icarus and Williams in the process. He dropped Young with the Olympic Slam for a near fall.

The champion hit the Busaiku knee, followed by a diving headbutt for a two-count. Distractions from Icarus and Williams allowed Young to send Maclin crashing onto the ground off the ring apron. Young went high-risk, but Maclin got him in a tree of woe position. Young escaped the corner after Maclin slammed Icarus and Williams. He then stacked the two in the corner and landed Caught in the Crosshairs. Young took advantage with a piledriver, but Maclin kicked out.

Young went back up the top turnbuckle, but Maclin pulled the chain and drove the challenger to the canvas. Maclin then hit K.I.A. for the win.
