Tony Khan on Chris Jericho's AEW Future Amid WWE Rumors
Via WWE.com
  • Tony Khan says he'd welcome Jericho back and still holds him in high standing in AEW/ROH.
  • Jericho's AEW contract ends at the end of 2025; reports conflict on his next move.
  • His recent social posts and throwback likes fuel WWE return rumors; last AEW match was Apr 6.

Well, it appears that the drama surrounding where Chris Jericho is going to go after his AEW contract ends at the end of the year doesn’t seem to bother AEW CEO Tony Khan as much. On Thursday, Khan held a media call ahead of Friday’s Ring of Honor event, Death Before Dishonor. Naturally, Jericho was brought up during the call.

Tony Khan Would Love To Have Chris Jericho Back

Khan gave a simple and flattering answer when asked about Jericho’s future and if he would potentially be returning to All Elite Wrestling. Obviously, Khan would like to keep him. The owner has lost enough talent, including the most recent, Blake Monroe, aka former AEW Superstar Mariah May. She left the company as soon as her May 2025 contract expired. Khan answered:

“If and when the time presents itself, I would love to have him back. He’s always in the highest of standing in AEW or ROH.” (h/t: F4Wonline)

Jericho was last in an AEW ring on April 6 at the Dynasty 2025 pay-per-view, where he lost the ROH World Title to Bandido. Jericho has been with the company since January 2019 and was the inaugural AEW World Champion.

So What’s Going On With Chris Jericho?

It's not an easy question to answer. There are several conflicting reports about where Jericho will be heading once his contract ends. The most recent report comes from AEW commentator Tony Schiavone, who is a close friend of Jericho. As reported on the most recent episode of his What Happened When podcast, he said that he hadn’t heard anything backstage about it. Schiavone said:

"If there’s smoke to that fire, it has not been thrown my way. I was backstage with Tony Khan most of this entire trip (for Forbidden Door). Chris Jericho’s name was not mentioned. But that doesn’t mean anything."

It doesn’t help that the 54-year-old has been fanning the flames of his WWE return with his social media activity. As noted, Jericho liked a post that talked about a possible reunion, and he posted a “throwback” clip of himself at the 2013 Royal Rumble. Not surprisingly, that made fans wonder if he was trying to tell them that he was going to be making a surprise appearance at next year’s Royal Rumble. The last time Jericho was in a WWE ring was in April 2018 as an entrant in the Greatest Royal Rumble match. The event was also called The Greatest Royal Rumble PLE.

What about his most recent social media? The former AEW World Champion shared a photo of himself with the word “contemplation” on August 27 on the social media app X. So it’s no wonder that fans and pro wrestling insiders are scratching their heads, pondering Jericho’s next move.
