Undertaker Wants Gunther To Face 'Old School' WWE Star

The Undertaker has hailed Gunther and a fellow WWE RAW star by predicting that they will put on "killer matches down the line".

The duo spoke on the latest episode of Taker's Six Feet Under podcast alongside his wife, Michelle McCool. They discussed a range of topics, including how the Ring General is a throwback to the old-school style of wrestling.

Gunther isn't the only one who has found a fan in the Phenom, who retired in November 2020. The pair spoke glowingly of another of WWE's current top heels, who both want to see face the Austrian heavyweight at some stage.

"He's a Throwback" - Undertaker Hopes To See Gunther Face WWE Star

Gunther and Taker discussed where the business was headed and the talent that WWE has been recruiting in recent years. The former two-time World Heavyweight Champion delved into superstars who arrived with a previous background in athletics:

"If you look at some of the guys we have who are still newer or fresher, like Bron (Breakker), The Creeds, for example, those were like the same generation in NXT. Crazy athletes, you wouldn't really see people like that get into the business like 10–15 years ago. Just sometimes, someone like Kurt (Angle) or something. But everybody else (now) is basically like a wrestler before, and they come in with the raw material of being world-class elite athletes. They transition so much to a lot of things that would have taken me 5–6 years."

Taker responded to Bron Breakker being namedropped and recalled trying to interview The Vision's powerhouse:

"Bron is kind of an anomaly in this young era. He's a throwback too. He's an old-school dude. I felt doing the interview tough because he didn't want to pull any curtains back and I respected that so much. I don't care how much we talk about the business and behind the scenes, there's a point where it becomes too much. For an old crusty old timer like myself, it does me good to see guys like you and Bron."

Breakker has become one of WWE's top heels over the past year, holding the Intercontinental Championship twice. He recently aligned with Seth Rollins as part of a four-man faction consisting of the duo, Bronson Reed, and their manager, Paul Heyman.

Gunther, who has yet to face Breakker on the main roster, used the former NXT Champion as an example of the new generation:

"Bron is a good example of like the younger generation who has the mindset of taking it fully serious. I really like him, he's a great guy."

Taker predicted that the pair would one day square off, and it would make for must-see pro wrestling:

"You guys are gonna have some killer matches down the line!"

Gunther and Breakker have enjoyed similar runs in WWE, reaching the top of developmental before arriving on the main roster. The Ring General has always been a heel, while the Unpredictable Badass initially joined SmackDown as a babyface.

The pair have an old-school in-ring style that resonates with Taker, one of the most celebrated pro wrestlers in history. Many expect to see them face off against each other down the line, quite possibly in a WrestleMania main event.

Breakker Expects To Face Gunther Sooner Rather Than Later

The duo's first match took place on NXT in April 2022, and Breakker successfully defended his NXT Championship. They haven't met in singles competition since moving up to the main roster, although a possible showdown has been occasionally teased.

Breakker spoke about the prospect of facing the Austrian while holding the Intercontinental Champion in December last year, after beating Sheamus and Ludwig Kaiser at Survivor Series WarGames. He said (via WrestleZone):

"I’m sure I’ll get to Gunther at some point and the World Heavyweight Champion at some point down the line. But right now, we are just focusing on this [points at the WWE Intercontinental Championship]."

Gunther is set for time off as he undergoes surgery on his nose after losing his World Heavyweight Championship to CM Punk at SummerSlam last weekend. He has yet to be a babyface on the main roster, but that could be an interesting direction for him once he returns and could help put the wheels in motion for a colossal showdown with Breakker.
