Veteran Konnan doesn't believe in AEW's Death Riders

In recent months, the Death Riders have dominated AEW programming. The trio of Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli is supposed to be on a mission to rebuild AEW from the ground up. They're the Trojan horse, attempting to destroy everything from within.

Yet, despite their aggressive segments, little has changed, and now, the storyline is starting to stagnate. During a recent episode of "Keeping It 100," veteran wrestler Konnan shared his thoughts on why The Death Riders' story is falling flat.

"I've said this a million times, bro, and it's worth repeating one more time — this Death Riders group is very underwhelming because they came and said, 'We're gonna change the company, there's gonna be a revolution,'" Konnan said. "The company is the same, they're lame — it looks like a very lame group...Very unintimidating, the only guy that comes off somewhat intimidating is Jason Statham, Moxley, right? The girl isn't intimidating, Yuta isn't intimidating, and Claudio just looks like a nice guy. He's never really mad. He always seems like he's smiling. Vey unintimidating group."

Moxley is still among the biggest names in wrestling. He has the all-around talent to carry the promotion on his back if need be. However, for this current story to grab headlines, he needs some fresh blood beside him.

That's why WWE's Bloodline story continues to excel: Paul Levesque continues to add new talent to the mix.

AEW has the right idea for the current story; it's just that their execution is falling short. Fortunately, we're still in the early stages, which means there's plenty of time to pivot and regroup. Giving Moxley the ball and letting him run with it is a recipe for success. But any elite running back needs good blockers in front of him, and right now, that's where The Death Riders are falling short.

With the Worlds End pay-per-view right around the corner and the new streaming deal with Max imminent, it will be interesting to see how things play out. One thing is for sure, though: something must change if the current story is going to carry AEW for most of 2025.
