TNA iMPACT 8/14 Recap: The Hardys, Trick Williams & More In Action Before ‘TNA Emergence’

Just one night prior to “TNA Emergence,” the stars of “TNA iMPACT” were in action in hopes of building momentum before the TNA+ special. TNA World Champion Trick Williams teamed with AJ Francis and Rich Swann of Fir$t Cla$$ to take on The System. Plus, Mike Santana had some side beef to settle with Eric Young. Moose Ambushed The show began with a shot of Moose backstage, and an unknown assailant injured him. The System then told Santino Marella that they demanded to face Williams and Fir$t Cla$$ in the opening match. Trick Williams and Fir$t Cla$$ vs. The System Before Trick Williams and Fir$t Cla$$ could even enter the ring, The System attacked them on the apron. JDC dove on the field, and at this point, the bell hadn’t even rung. Once the action finally hit the ring, the match was official. JDC dropped an elbow on Rich Swann. Eddie Edwards hit a Blue Thunder Bomb on Swann, and Brian Myers followed up with a flying elbow. Swann turned the tide and tagged in AJ Francis. JDC was dropped by a clothesline. Francis delivered Tennessee Whiskey before Trick Williams was tagged in. JDC ran into a Trick Kick. Francis was back in, but JDC dropped him with a backdrop. Myers attacked Francis in the corner and drove Swann to the mat with an Impaler DDT, and then a driver. Francis went for a double Down Payment, but Edwards popped him with a super kick. Swann took advantage of the chaos and rolled Myers up. He used the ropes for leverage when the referee wasn’t looking, securing the pin for his team. Winners: Trick Williams and Fir$t Cla$$ Indi Hartwell and Dani Luna vs. Harley Hudson and Myla Grace Harley Hudson had Dani Luna in a headlock and took her down to the mat. Myla Grace was tagged in, and she landed a combination on Luna, ending with a basement dropkick. Hudson was back in, and she delivered a leg drop to the arm of Luna. Luna powered up for a German suplex before tagging in Indi Hartwell. Both Hudson and Grace ran into spinebusters. Grace was then dropped with Hurts Don’t It, and this one was over. Winners: Indi Hartwell and Dani Luna Rosemary Starts Feud With Indi Hartwell As Hartwell and Luna were celebrating, Rosemary appeared from the crowd and spat mist in the face of Hartwell. Matt Cardona vs. John Skyler w/Jason Hotch and Tasha Steelz Matt Cardona was ready to deliver punches to the head of John Skyler in the corner, but Jason Hotch distracted him. This allowed Skyler to trip Cardona, who rolled outside of the ring. Hotch then landed a cheap shot when the referee was checking on Skyler. Cardona rebounded with a missile dropkick. He was going for the Reboot, but Tasha Steelz protected Skyler. Cardona knocked Hotch off the apron and hit Radio Silence on Skyler for the win. Winner: Matt Cardona After the match, Hotch chop blocked Cardona, and the two-on-one assault began. Mustafa Ali then appeared and teased getting involved in the beatdown. Instead, he called on Agent Zero, who delivered a two-handed chokeslam to Cardona. More Tension Between Jodi Threat and Dani Luna? Backstage, Jodi Threat checked on Indi Hartwell. Dani Luna then walked in and brushed Threat off before a TNA medical staffer told them to leave. Matt Cardona Gets a Match With Mustafa Ali Matt Cardona approached Tasha Steelz and demanded a singles match with Mustafa Ali. Steelz accepted the challenge for TNA “Emergence.” TNA Knockouts Tag Team Summit Santino Marella was in the ring to introduce the participants in the four-way TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Championship match at “Emergence.” The Elegance Brand, Xia Brookside, Lei Ying Lee, The IInspiration, and Fatal Influence entered the ring. Santino gave the mic to Ash by Elegance first. Ash bragged about speaking first because she’s one-half of the TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Champions. M by Elegance then claimed the Elegance Brand was the most dominant team in the ring. Xia Brookside said both she and Lee will emerge victorious. Fatal Influence then claimed the NXT brand is far superior to TNA Wrestling. The IInspiration reminded everyone that their goal is to become two-time TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champions. Santino allowed all teams five seconds to brawl before security was called. The IInspiration, along with Xia Brookside and Lei Ying Lee, dove on the heels and security to end the segment. Rosemary Explains Attacking Indi Hartwell Gia Miller asked Rosemary for answers on her actions earlier. Rosemary responded by claiming Indi Hartwell walked into TNA Wrestling as if she owned it. Rosemary called herself the dark mother of TNA. Mance Warner And Steph de Lander Suspended Steph de Lander and Mance Warner were upset about being suspended by Santino Marella for handling personal affairs in his office. Warner claimed nothing would keep him out of TNA Wrestling. Mike Santana vs. Eric Young w/The Northern Armory Mike Santana delivered punches to Eric Young early on. Young hit a back elbow and threw his opponent out of the ring. The Northern Armory then ganged up on Santana outside of the ring. Santana rebounded and chopped Young in the corner. Santana then took out The Northern Armory with a dive outside of the ring. Young got caught in the Rolling Buck Fifty. Young shoved Santana off the top rope twice and landed a flying elbow for a near fall. Santana went for a surprise rollup, but he settled for a Death Valley Driver for a two-count. Young went high-risk, but nothing doing. Santana capitalized with Spin The Block for the victory. Winner: Mike Santana Before Santana’s music could even play, The Northern Armory attacked him. Sami Callihan made the save before chasing Young out of the ring. King’s Speech With Steve Maclin and Jake Something Frankie Kazarian was out for his King’s Speech segment. His guests were TNA International Champion Steve Maclin and Jake Something. Maclin and Something had a face-off, but Kazarian prevented them from colliding. Kazarian asked Something for his thoughts, but he refused to talk. He then asked Maclin the same question, but he wouldn’t talk either. Maclin grabbed the microphone from Kazarian and told him to shut up. Kazarian called Something the dumbest guy in wrestling. Maclin went for K.I.A on Kazarian, who escaped. Something then delivered a Black Hole Slam to Maclin and held up the TNA International Championship. Sami Callihan Gets Unexpected Support Sami Callihan was backstage and said maybe “The Death Machine” has been defeated by Father Time. Callihan said if he doesn’t defeat Mike Santana at “Emergence,” then he will retire from in-ring action. Eddie Edwards approached Callihan and questioned what had happened to him. He told Callihan that guys like him are the last of a dying breed and wants him to return to form one last time. The Hardys and Leon Slater vs. The Rascalz and Cedric Alexander Leon Slater delivered a reverse enzuigiri to Myron Reed. Matt Hardy was tagged in, and he worked on the arm of Reed. Zachary Wentz was tagged in before Reed delivered a Codebreaker to Slater. Jeff Hardy and Slater double-teamed for Poetry in Motion on Wentz. Reed delivered a superkick to Matt. He then dropkicked Matt following a sunset flip roll through. Cedric Alexander was tagged in, and he landed a suplex. Wentz was the legal man again, and he hit a standing moonsault on Matt. Wentz was soon planted by a superplex. Jeff got the hot tag, and he delivered back elbows to Alexander. Jeff then connected with Whisper in the Wind. Slater missed a leg lariat, but he hit a handspring back elbow on both members of The Rascalz. Wentz delivered a knee to Slater, but Matt hit him with the Side Effect. Jeff went for Twist of Fate on Reed, but he was countered by Slumdog Millionaire. The Hardys and Slater connected with triple Twist of Fate moves. Jeff went for the Swanton Bomb, but The Rascalz pulled Alexander out of the ring. Slater used Matt’s back for leverage, and he dove on the field. Alexander was hit with a Side Effect, a splash from Jeff, and a Crossover from Slater. The Hardys caught Wentz during a suicide dive attempt, but Reed dove on Matt and Jeff. Slater then took out Reed with Big Play Slater. Back in the ring, Slater missed the Swanton 450. Alexander caught Slater in the Lumbar Check for the pinfall. Winners: Cedric Alexander and The Rascalz

NFL Draft intel: Big Ten QB's elite arm turning heads among scouts

Each week, Yardbarker monitors the 2026 NFL Draft, scheduled for April 23-25 in Pittsburgh. From an Indiana quarterback to a Louisville wide receiver, here are five players we're tracking: Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. and Field Yates listed Mendoza (6-foot-5, 225 pounds) as their No. 5 QB on "First Draft" on Wednesday. Yates gushed over his arm. "This kid is legit," Yates said. "He makes a lot of cool throws. He makes a lot of very confident throws that I'm not sure other quarterbacks would even see." That's one reason the California Golden Bears transfer produced in 2024 without stellar weapons. The program had no offensive players selected in the 2025 draft, but he completed 68.7 percent of his passes for 3,004 yards and 16 touchdowns in 11 games. Imagine what he could do at Indiana, which made the College Football Playoff last season. Hoosiers head coach Curt Cignetti has said Mendoza's arm is stronger than former starting QB Kurtis Rourke's (now with the San Francisco 49ers). He tied for the FBS's 10th-most passing TDs (29 in 12 games) last season. LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier On Aug. 8, LSU HC Brian Kelly confirmed Nussmeier has chronic patellar tendinitis in his left knee. The coach downplayed the injury. While not season-ending, Yates believes it will concern teams. "Get ready for a long medical conversation surrounding Garrett Nussmeier from late February into March prior to the predraft process," he said on "First Draft." The injury hasn't affected Nussmeier's odds of being the top pick in the draft. As of Thursday, FanDuel Sportsbook lists him as the favorite (+340) to go No. 1 overall in 2026. The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder may dispel the medical questions if he excels again in 2025. Last season, he ranked fifth in the FBS in passing yards (4,052 in 13 games). Clemson QB Cade Klubnik In his latest mock draft, The Ringer's Todd McShay has the Cleveland Browns taking Klubnik (6-foot-2, 210 pounds) with pick No. 1. "If the Browns are picking No. 1 in 2026, it means none of their quarterbacks did enough to claim the job long term, including Shedeur Sanders, despite his impressive preseason debut," wrote McShay. "Enter Klubnik, who's calm in chaos and has enough mobility and arm strength to succeed at the next level." Jacksonville Jaguars fifth-year QB Trevor Lawrence is the only Clemson player to be taken No. 1 overall in the draft. Klubnik could lead the No. 4 Tigers to a national championship, like Lawrence did during the 2018 season. The senior finished with the nation's third-most passing TDs (36 in 14 games) in 2024. With star wide receivers Antonio Williams and Bryant Wesco Jr. returning, Klubnik could have another big year. The wideouts combined for 16 TD catches last season. Oregon TE Kenyon Sadiq Sadiq (6-foot-3, 245 pounds) should assume a bigger role after the Los Angeles Rams took former Ducks TE Terrance Ferguson (pick No. 46) in the 2025 draft. CBS Sports' Mike Renner ranked Sadiq as his No. 1 TE and believes he could go higher in the draft than Ferguson. "Even if he's on the smallish side by NFL standards, it did not show up much as a run-blocker," wrote Renner in a story published Wednesday. "Sadiq's play strength was unique for a true sophomore and should only improve as his career progresses. A potential top-20 talent with development." Sadiq — who had just two touchdown catches in 14 games last season — isn't considered a first-rounder yet. Tankathon's latest mock draft has the Carolina Panthers selecting him with pick No. 70 in the third round. His stock could skyrocket if he produces better numbers. Louisville WR Chris Bell Bell (6-foot-2, 220 pounds) may check the boxes for NFL teams when evaluating WRs before the draft. The Athletic's Dane Brugler rates him as his No. 2 WR. "With his strong, muscular frame, Bell passes the eye test walking off the bus," wrote Brugler in a story published Thursday. "He uses his physicality to be a possession target who can make tough grabs over defenders. And with his 4.4 speed, Bell can separate vertically or create explosive plays after the catch." Per Brugler, Bell must expand his route tree to improve his draft stock. He must also prove that he can succeed without QB Tyler Shough (now with the New Orleans Saints). Bell could still be productive after recording a career-high 737 receiving yards in 13 games last season. He has been named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list. The award recognizes college football's top WR.

Three NFL teams facing Super Bowl-or-bust expectations in 2025

Saying a team is facing championship-or-bust expectations is a dangerous game. The odds are always stacked against any one team, no matter how talented they are, and every season ends with one team hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy. However, that doesn't stop fans from placing those expectations on their respective teams each year, particularly those with a track record of recent consistent success. Let's take a closer look at three teams that stand out as having that championship-or-bust mentality. Buffalo Bills The Bills are near the top of the Super Bowl-or-bust list. They have been one of the NFL's best teams for the last six years, with quarterback Josh Allen leading the way and a strong defense. Still, Buffalo hasn't been able to break through and reach its first Super Bowl since 1993. Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have repeatedly stood in their way. The Bills are searching for their first-ever Super Bowl title. Allen's tenure has seen the second-best stretch of success in franchise history, and if any group is going to get it done, it should be this one. The pressure isn't just on Buffalo as a team; it's also on Allen. Fair or not, quarterbacks are generally measured by rings — Allen needs his. Baltimore Ravens The Ravens are in a nearly identical situation to the Bills. Consistent contender, top-tier quarterback, strong defense and always sky-high expectations, but the Ravens have had even less playoff success in recent years than the Bills have. Baltimore has reached just one conference championship game during Lamar Jackson's career, having won just three total playoff games over the past seven seasons. Their playoff track record does not match the talent level or regular-season success the Ravens have had. Like Allen, Jackson must reach a Super Bowl to fortify his legacy in the NFL, and it's hard to imagine the roster surrounding him getting better than it is now. Detroit Lions The pressure on the Lions isn't quite the same as the Bills or Ravens, mainly because they are a relatively new contender in the NFL. They have made the playoffs two years in a row with their current core and haven't consistently fallen short in the playoffs the way Buffalo and Baltimore have. That doesn't mean expectations shouldn't be high. Not only are the Lions one of the NFL's darlings right now, given head coach Dan Campbell's personality, the creativity of the offense and talent on the roster, but they have been knocking on the door of a championship. They blew a three-score lead in the NFC Championship game two years ago to the San Francisco 49ers. Detroit followed that up by finishing with the NFL's best record in 2024 at 15-2, but did not win a single playoff game, losing 45-31 to the Washington Commanders in the divisional round. The Lions, who have yet to appear in a Super Bowl, have never really had to deal with expectations throughout their history — they are now.

Jack Nicklaus Reveals His Ultimate Golf Mount Rushmore — Here’s Who Made the Cut

Golf legend Jack Nicklaus has shared his personal “Mount Rushmore of Golf,” naming the four players he believes best represent the sport’s greatness. While there could be few arguments about his picks, the 18-time major champion sparked debate among fans with one big omission. Bobby Jones and Tiger Woods Among Nicklaus’s Pick Nicklaus has won the most major championships in history with 18 victories, and fans widely regard him as one of the greatest golfers ever. “Probably Bobby Jones, probably Ben Hogan, probably Tiger Woods. I’d like to join them. Myself — that’s four,” the 85-year-old replied when asked to name his Mount Rushmore of golf. At the top of Nicklaus’s list is Bobby Jones, the amateur icon who shaped golf’s early years. Jones’s record speaks volumes. He won 13 major championships, including the remarkable Grand Slam in 1930. Beyond his achievements, he co-founded the Masters Tournament, ensuring his influence on the sport would last for generations. Next on Nicklaus’s list is Ben Hogan, whose career is best remembered for his nine major titles. After surviving a near-fatal car crash in 1949, Hogan defied the odds to win six more majors. His dedication to perfecting the golf swing made him a legend in both skill and spirit — qualities that clearly earned Nicklaus’s admiration. Finally, Nicklaus included himself on his Mount Rushmore. While it might seem bold, his record more than justifies the choice. He won 117 professional tournaments, including 73 PGA Tour wins, while his 18 major championships remain unmatched. No Place For Arnold Palmer in Nicklaus’s Mount Rushmore While Nicklaus’s choices are hard to argue with, there was no place for Arnold Palmer. Nicklaus became close friends with his rival Palmer, and together with Gary Player they dominated golf in the 1960s. Palmer won 62 PGA Tour titles and is still fifth in all-time victories behind Sam Snead, Woods, Nicklaus, and Hogan. He died in 2016 at age 87. While some might disagree with Nicklaus’s picks, Mount Rushmore lists are always subjective, as every golfer and fan uses different measures of greatness to make their picks. For instance, Tiger Woods included Jack Nicklaus, Bobby Jones, Sam Snead, and himself in his Mount Rushmore. Nicklaus picked the players who, in his view, shaped golf the most, even if not everyone agrees.
