Los Americanos will debut on WWE Raw when the two ‘mystery’ masked men who have aided El Grande Americano compete in tag action.
It marks the latest development in the interesting and unpredictable legacy of El Grande Americano. We look at what we can expect from the WWE Raw in-ring debut of El Grande Americano’s dynasty, Los Americanos.
El Grande Americano debuted in WWE in March. Billed as a highly regarded, legendary luchador, El Grande Americano immediately became a hit with WWE fans. Part of what made El Grande so much fun was the poorly kept secret of who was behind the mask.
Chad Gable had donned the mask and cape in a bid to finally score a win over WWE’s masked stars. The character was a mockery of Mexican luchador traditions, which led to big appearances at WrestleMania and AAA.
But an injury in July derailed things for Gable as El Grande Americano.
El Grande Americano didn’t disappear with Gable’s injury. Instead, he remained on WWE TV, albeit a foot taller and with a new European elegance.
Ludwig Kaiser is clearly the man now playing El Grande Americano. It is a devilishly clever move from Kaiser. The German hadn’t competed on WWE Raw for four months. He is now back regularly on WWE Raw and has had high-profile excursions to Mexico for AAA shows.
Kaiser is clearly not one to withhold opportunities from his fellow Europeans. A few weeks after the second El Grande Americano appeared, a third El Grande Americano started helping that El Grande Americano win matches.
Things began to get confusing. What was easy was who was under the mask of the third El Grande Americano. That was Pete Dunne. Dunne was a staple on Main Event but had also begun to struggle to get booked on WWE Raw.
Kaiser, it would appear, offered the olive branch for Dunne to get some Netflix screentime.
Dunne seemed to be set for a push on WWE Raw on Netflix at the beginning of the year. Dunne called out management for holding him down despite him having more TV wins that Cody Rhodes in 2024.
A potential alliance between Dunne and Kaiser was teased at this point that didn’t go anywhere … or didn’t it? The strategy to take on the identity of El Grande Americano to gain Netflix time was shown to us months ago.
We just weren’t looking close enough.
When these two new El Grande Americanos couldn’t get their work done, a fourth man was brought in to help. This Americano is clearly Dunne’s longtime friend and tag team partner, Tyler Bate.
Which means when assessing what we can expect from Los Americanos making their in-ring debut, we don’t need to use too much imagination.
Expect Dunne and Bate – or New Catch Republic/ British Strong Style – in masks. Dunne has been working as a match producer for AAA since WWE acquired the Mexican company, so expect some proper lucha moves.
The big question is how the broadcast team will respond to Los Americanos. WWE announcers always reacted to Gable playing El Grande Americano as Gable playing Americano. Will they acknowledge that it is clearly Dunne and Bate behind Los Americanos?
What is guaranteed is El Grande Americano and the Los Americanos scam they are pulling won’t last long. Gable will surely return to claim the honour of being the original mock Mexican, El Grande Americano.
