John Cena will compete in his last match on Saturday, December 13, in the marquee matchup of Saturday Night’s Main Event when he battles Gunther. It will be the final chapter in the book that is John Cena’s 23-year WWE career. A book that John Cena has already closed, though, is his history of PPV/PLE matches.
Cena competed in his final PLE match when he dropped the Intercontinental Championship to Dominik Mysterio at Survivor Series: WarGames 2025. John Cena competed in many pay-per-view classics against several different opponents throughout his legendary career. But who has The Champ wrestled the most on PPV/PLE? Let’s find out!

CM Punk is unquestionably one of John Cena’s greatest rivals. The Second City Saint joins this list at number five, having wrestled John Cena 13 times on PPV/PLE over the years.
Chris Jericho and The Miz both deserve honorable mentions, having also met The Champ 13 times on PPV throughout their careers. However, they happened to be in more multi-man matches where the focus wasn’t on their storyline with Cena, so Punk barely beat them and took the fifth spot on the list.
Obviously, when one thinks of CM Punk vs John Cena, their five-star classic at Money in the Bank 2011 immediately comes to mind. Punk shocked the world as he walked out of his hometown of Chicago with the WWE Championship. Their storyline peaked that night, but they continued having phenomenal matches over the years, including a solid WWE Undisputed Title bout during Cena’s 2025 farewell tour.

Both men scored exactly four PPV/PLE wins over one another, so it seems even on paper. However, we have to give the edge to CM Punk. He had more singles victories than Cena (Punk won at Money in the Bank & SummerSlam 2011, while Cena won at Night of Champions 2025). Also, Night of Champions 2012’s no-contest ending felt like a win for Punk since he was the defending WWE Champion and retained the gold.
