Karrion Kross is one of the most talked-about wrestlers in the business this week after his WWE departure on Sunday. However, some fans still aren't convinced he has completely cut ties with WWE. The reason? Because Kross continues to use the name that WWE gave him, even during an interview where he slammed the company and told all about its attempts to get him to stay as his deal was about to come to an end.
Kross spoke with Ariel Helwani this week. During the interview, he claimed WWE offered him a new contract last Tuesday, so two days after what would end up being his final match for the company at SummerSlam. Kross was given 24 hours to sign the deal, a deadline he intentionally missed as WWE didn't respond when the wrestler asked how they arrived at the number he was being offered.
Kross also claims that even though he was given the chance to stay, his wife Scarlett was not offered a new contract. Surprising to some as the two have very much been a package deal throughout the pair's entire WWE run. However, even though Scarlett is a wrestler herself, WWE has rarely used her outside of accompanying Kross to the ring.
Even though Kross has seemingly been very open and honest about his final days in WWE, quite a few fans remain convinced that if he isn't currently under contact with the company, a new deal is in the works. The leading reason for that is his continued use of the name Karrion Kross. Kross's name was changed when he signed with WWE, so his continued use of the name Karrion Kross suggests he still has legal permission to use it.
Kross went by Killer Kross before signing with WWE. WWE doesn't tend to like using the word kill, hence the name change. It did something similar when Kevin Owens signed with the company. Kill wasn't in his name, but Owens had his catchpharse changed from "Kill, Steen, Kill" to "Fight, Owens, Fight".
Speaking of Owens, there was a time when WWE wanted us to believe he had left the company that went as far as KO reverting to the Steen name. That means even if Kross were to change his name from Karrion back to Killer, there might still be some fans who aren't convinced. WWE does tend to be incredibly strict when it comes to its IP use, which lends me to believe that there's a very real chance this is all still part of an elaborate ruse.
