When Triple H officially took over as WWE's head of creative, there was a clear shift in the quality of programming. There was a directive to elevate intriguing talent, which complimented one of the promotion's deepest rosters since the tail end of the "Attitude Era."

This year, there have been numerous complaints about the company's direction, with an emphasis on periodic shocking moments over short-term payoffs. One former lead writer has taken umbrage with this approach and went scorched earth on the booking team in a fiery rant.

On the "Coach and Bro Live" podcast, Vince Russo went off on the current creative trajectory.

"They just keep playing the same plays over and over again," Russo said. "Every show ends in a pop—nothing makes any sense. Two shows in a row, here comes CM Punk with a minute left in the show. It's rinse, wash, repeat every single week."

Russo had plenty of horrific ideas throughout his tenures with WWE and WCW, but there was some merit to his "Crash TV" philosophy that something should always be happening with everyone, so there's never a desire for a viewer to change stations. That mindset bodes even better for the social media age, where fans can simply catch up in a few clips on X without ever tuning into the show.

Both "Raw" and "SmackDown" should have a must-watch aura, and catching up online won't suffice because experiencing the current drama or action is imperative. The current product is rather dull and, at best, produces a few good segments each week.

WWE has to rectify this glaring problem before it loses all momentum.
