The April 27 episode of WWE Raw served two purposes: reshaping the roster after WrestleMania and finalizing major matches for WWE Backlash 2026. The post-WrestleMania stretch is WWE’s closest thing to a reset, as new stars emerge and fresh rivalries take shape. Monday’s Raw pushed that reset forward in a major way.
Roman Reigns officially took his place as Raw’s centerpiece, new faces made immediate impacts, and WWE locked in several key Backlash matches. Here’s what happened on Raw and how the Backlash card changed heading into Tampa.
The biggest development on Raw was the continued consolidation of Roman Reigns’ power on Monday nights. Fresh off reclaiming the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania, Reigns now has full control of Raw, backed by The Usos as “The First Family.”
Decisions, decisions...

The post-WrestleMania roster shakeup also continued.
Joe Hendry officially made his Raw debut after more than a year of crossover appearances and a lengthy run in NXT. His in-ring concert was entertaining, and the dig at Logan Paul was well-played. Paul’s exaggerated reaction sold it even more.

The Street Profits returned to Raw last week, but tonight their presence felt more meaningful. Their backstage interaction with Seth Rollins was intriguing, as they dismissed any alliance with him. There's potential for Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins to become major players on Monday nights.

Ethan Page reappeared in the Intercontinental Championship picture, which is a promising position for the former NXT champion.
Oba Femi introduced the “Oba Femi Challenge” after quickly defeating Grayson Waller.

The concept feels sustainable for Femi in the near term: weekly dominant wins, growing crowd reactions, and a steady build toward what increasingly feels like the inevitable showdown with Roman Reigns.
IYO SKY and Asuka will finally meet one-on-one at Backlash.
The match was set after IYO and Becky Lynch delivered a strong Intercontinental Championship match on Raw before Asuka interfered and escalated the rivalry.
Notably absent from the segment was Kairi Sane. There were light crowd chants in Laredo calling for her, but nothing like R-Truth received last summer.
El Grande Americano continues to be one of WWE’s most unexpectedly over acts.

His match against Rey Mysterio was designed to further build toward the Mask vs. Mask showdown against the Original El Grande Americano on May 30 at Noche de Los Grandes.
WWE is clearly elevating Americano from comic relief into a featured act.
No. Brock Lesnar did not appear on Raw, and WWE did not heavily address his WrestleMania retirement.
Gunther was also absent.
Still, Paul Heyman’s unresolved favor to Gunther remains one of WWE’s biggest loose ends, and if Lesnar has one final match left, that feels like the most likely path.
The final segment of Raw made the biggest Backlash change official.
Jacob Fatu viciously attacked Roman Reigns, reinforcing his reputation as one of WWE’s most dangerous stars. The attack was enough for Reigns to accept the challenge, officially setting the World Heavyweight Championship match.
