  • Rey Fenix debuting on SmackDown next week in Chicago, IL.
  • WWE is pushing Fenix like they did with his brother Penta.
  • Uncertainty about Fenix's WrestleMania involvement, given the timing.

WWE confirmed that Rey Fenix is coming to SmackDown, and they've even given fans a debut date. With multiple teases over several weeks, Friday's episode of SmackDown included a final teaser for Luchador star and former AEW performer Rey Fenix. At the end of the vignette, WWE revealed that Fenix will debut next week on SmackDown.

Rey Fenix is Finally Coming to SmackDown And WWE

WWE will be back in North America next week as SmackDown emanates from Chicago. The arrival of Fenix -- also known as Penta's brother and one-half of the world-famous Lucha Bros. -- will make his first appearance for WWE. The hope is that he finds the same level of success on the blue brand as Penta has found on Raw. Penta was released from his AEW contract sooner than his brother, which allowed him to set the table and test the waters. Fans have been enthralled with Penta, and WWE has gone all in to push the masked superstar. Fenix has as much, if not more potential, based on his high-flying style.

It's unclear who Fenix will wrestle, but if the build of Penta suggests anything, the company will put him in the ring with another fantastic in-ring worker and go full tilt on his ring entrance to make him feel like a huge star and give a solid first impression.

Intriguing Timing For WWE

What's so fascinating about the timing is how close this is happening ahead of WrestleMania. Penta seems to be building towards a program with Bron Breakker for the Intercontinental Title, but this doesn't give the company much time to build something for Fenix if they want him to be on the card.

There is so much on the go in WWE, and stars are already likely to be overlooked for the biggest show of the year. Trying to fit Fenix onto the card could be a challenge. That is, unless WWE goes with a last-minute ladder match or some kind of battle royal that includes Fenix. He'll likely make an appearance, but will he have a match on the card? Next Friday may offer a much bigger clue as to WWE's creative plans.
