We're here: it's the night before John Cena's last match ever, and WWEFriday Night SmackDown is setting the table for a massive match tomorrow during Saturday Night's Main Event. Oba Femi, the NXT Champion, comes face to face with WWE Champion Cody Rhodes ahead of their NXT Showcase match.

Ilja Dragunov continues his United States Championship Open Challenge with Tommaso Ciampa, and Lash Legend faces off against Alexa Bliss in singles action. The big buzz tonight is set around the return of the Terror Twins - Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest - against Aleister Black and Zelina.

Here Are Your Key Moments From Friday Night SmackDown For December 12, 2025

  • WWE Champion Cody Rhodes opens the show this week and addresses Drew McIntyre and his comments that it's an unsafe working environment. Rhodes says there's a reason why he's not mingling with people or doing press junkets, and it's because he's only half in. Rhodes says he can't fire him, but he can beat him. NXT Champion Oba Femi appears from backstage and confronts Rhodes ahead of their match tomorrow at Saturday Night's Main Event. Femi says Rhodes' passion is great, but he's worried about the wrong man. He introduces himself to Rhodes and tells him he cannot conquer him. Femi says everyone acts like the future is a far away concept, but he says he is the future, and in the spirit of John Cena's "Hustle, Loyalty, Respect", his time is now. Rhodes reminds him that he's the person who beat Cena for the WWE Championship. Rhodes goes to walk away until Femi grabs him and the two stare each other down.
  • The Wyatt Sicks appear in the ring, and Uncle Howdy responds to Solo Sikoa and The MFT. Howdy tells Sikoa that while he may not have the power to look inside himself. Sikoa tells him that all of his real family has turned his back on him, and laughs at the idea of the MFTs running SmackDown. Howdy tells him the Wyatt Sicks still hold the WWE Tag Team Championships, and he says if they want the championships, they can come and get them. Sikoa appears on the big screen, and tells them that Howdy doesn't call the shots. Sikoa tells him that they're coming to get the titles from them next week and that the only thing they'll be able to do is run.

Je'Von Evans Continues To Shine

One of the most impressive NXT Superstars in the recent crop of talent, Je'Von Evans has run with every opportunity given since beginning to appear on the main roster. The Young O.G. has consistently proven he's the best in his field, and his match tonight with The Miz added another notch to the rookie's belt.

It's going to be a weekend filled with impressive up-and-coming talent, with John Cena making his retirement match an event to elevate the future of WWE. With so many eyes on Saturday Night's Main Event in D.C. tomorrow, Je'Von Evans continues to impress, and the opportunity to shine next to another legend: AJ Styles.
