There might not be a member of WWE's roster that fans want to see become world champion next year more than LA Knight , including one of the legends of the business. Knight was written off TV two weeks ago after being attacked by Bronson Reed in the WWE RAW parking lot and speculation is growing over his return.
A potential surprise return as an entrant in the Royal Rumble match on January 31st is a possibility for Knight, who has had a topsy-turvy year. No member of the men's roster has competed in more matches than the former United States Champion, and his hard work hasn't gone unnoticed by fans.
Diamond Dallas Page was asked to give his thoughts on Knight and the comparisons between his own career and the 43-year-old's. The former WCW World Heavyweight Champion was full of praise and appeared to advise Triple H to push him.
Page told Chris Van Vliet:
"I love that kid, man. I love the tenacity of the stick to it, it took him a long time to get to that character. And he was good before that, but now he’s great. Hopefully, at some point, he gets a chance to really get that ball, because he can run with it, give him that damn ball, because that cat, he’s got it all.
Page defended Knight against claims he's imitating legendary duo The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin:
"And people who say that he’s mimicking this character, that character, that’s so wrong. He’s a piece of all that. He grew up on all of us coming up wanting to do what we do, and now he’s doing it at its highest level. So I saw that article actually sent it to him, because it was really cool the way they [did it]. I thought it was just going to be a little blurb, but just comparing our careers.”
Knight has tasted the main event picture in years gone by as he challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Crown Jewel in 2023. But he came up short against the Tribal Chief and hasn't been able to win a world title throughout his time on WWE's main roster.
Reports claim that Knight is set for a big year in WWE in 2026 and that the angle which saw him written off TV was for storyline purposes rather than rumors of a burial. He did finish this year on a high when he reached the final of the Last Time is Now tournament, but lost to Gunther, who went on to defeat and 'retire' John Cena.
LA Knight's initial run on the main roster began with a new gimmick: he was called up as Max Dupri, the manager of Maximum Male Models. This role frustrated fans and even the wrestler himself, as he was a massive hit in NXT while using his Knight persona.
The change in WWE's regime when Triple H replaced Vince McMahon as head of creative led to Knight reverting to that character. It was the right call, and he has continued to work hard to try to reach the top of the business.
Triple H acknowledged this when discussing Knight's career during an appearance on Greg & The Morning Buzz back in November 2023. WWE's chief content officer said:
"I look at LA Knight right now. He’s been in this business for a long time. I knew him in the very beginning. He was in NXT early in the system. He’ll admit this, a lot to his own doing, he caused himself to not be in it, but he kept grinding, kept grinding, kept grinding. And here now, he is sort of running towards the end of his career and all of a sudden, he’s making it and becoming a big deal."
He continued:
"Hopefully, he can capitalize on that, and we can, but you never know, and you keep those doors open and you see what’s going to resonate. Nobody has perfect vision around the corner. You just keep grinding and doing what you do and hopefully success comes."
Two years on, and Knight is still awaiting the opportunity to carry the promotion as one of its top stars with one of the two world titles. But he could be one to watch in 2026, especially if fan support reaches a level that WWE can't ignore.
