  • Triple H missed Raw to film a secret Kill Tony appearance for Netflix.
  • Raw ran smoothly without him; producers and Gorilla Position handled the show.
  • WWE's creative machine works collaboratively; Triple H empowers his team to run shows.

WWE Raw aired live from Milwaukee on September 8, but one major figure was notably absent. Chief Content Officer Triple H did not attend the show, later revealing on The Pat McAfee Showthat he was away filming an appearance for the Netflix comedy series Kill Tony.

Raw Ran Smoothly Without Triple H In The House

Triple H was asked a question about the contract signing between Stephanie Vaquer and Iyo Sky. He responded, “To be honest, I was not there last night, I haven’t had a chance to watch the show yet,” Triple H admitted. “I did Kill Tony last night. Oh sh--. I’m not supposed to say that. I forgot it was a secret that I’m on there until Monday. It was fun.”

While his absence might come as a shock to some fans who believe that he's got his hands all over the product fans are watching on Netflix, the show itself went on without a hitch. WWE operates as a finely tuned machine, and whether the Chief Content Officer is in the building or not, his producers and those he leaves to run Gorilla Position have it under control. Segments were adjusted, including the contract signing between SKY and Vaquer, which was explained away due to Vaquer’s absence.

Still, Raw delivered a packed lineup that set the stage for upcoming storylines.

WWE’s Creative Machine Doesn’t Stop

Triple H doing other things is probably good news for WWE. It means the company’s creative process isn’t reliant on one individual, perhaps like it used to be under Vince McMahon. Like McMahon, Triple H oversees everything. Unlike McMahon, Triple H seems to trust those he leaves in charge to take care of business.

In fact, part of Triple H’s leadership has been empowering his team to take control and run a significant show without him. It's not like the Tony Hinchcliffe show is a must-attend event for Triple H. This was an event he opted to be at instead of an episode of Raw that included AJ Lee’s highly anticipated return promo. It’s a shift from WWE’s past, where McMahon’s presence loomed over every show.

Perhaps more than ever, Raw and SmackDown are now collaborative efforts. Triple H has been known to collaborate much more frequently with talent and writers, likely ensuring they're all on the same page. Everyone probably knew the direction the show on Monday was supposed to take, and things ran seamlessly.
