WWE: Kevin Owens Injury Update Will Excite Fans
Kevin Owens in WWE

Kevin Owens has been out of action for over a year after missing WWE WrestleMania 41 due to a serious neck injury, which required surgery. The Prizefighter's absence has been felt on SmackDown, and fans missed out on the match between Owens and Randy Orton at the Show of Shows last April.

The 41-year-old won't be appearing at WrestleMania 42 this April, but an update on his status will enthuse fans of the former Universal Champion. He was in the midst of a heel run when forced to undergo surgery, and it will be intriguing to see how he's used when he does return.

Kevin Owens Re-Evaluation Revealed

A report from Bodyslam claims that Owens will undergo a re-evaluation in the summer to assess his recovery. WWE are said to be "hopeful" that he will be able to return at some point this year.

That's good news for fans eagerly anticipating Owens' return to the ring, and many are already pushing for him to be handed a world title reign. He's now a veteran in the locker room, and his injury resulted from years of hard work, especially in gruelling matches with Cody Rhodes in late 2024.

Owens missed John Cena's retirement tour due to his injury, and that is one of the biggest regrets of the Farewell Tour. He has also sat out Sami Zayn winning the United States Championship and Rhodes reclaiming the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Could Kevin Owens Return Alongside Chris Jericho?

Depending on the timeline of Owens' recovery, he could be back in time for Chris Jericho's possible return to WWE. There has been lengthy speculation over his former tag team partner and rival re-signing with the promotion.

Jericho was expected to leave AEW at the start of 2026, when many believed his contract had expired. But he remains on the company's roster page on its website, and it's believed his deal was frozen due to time off last year.

There remains an expectation that Jericho will be back on WWE TV at some stage this year, although it's unknown when he can sign with the promotion. If he is able to return this summer and Owens is cleared, it might be an interesting direction to take by having them return as a duo.

Jericho and Owens were part of one of the most entertaining storylines in WWE history when they buddied up in April 2016 to 2017. Their Festival of Friendship segment had fans glued to their screens when Owens turned on Jericho.

The AEW star has spoken in the past about wanting to revisit their story if he were to return to WWE. That might be a perfect way to kickstart his potential retirement run by having him reunite with Owens.
