WWE Legends Reunite At All In
AEW

Christian Cage had the opportunity to make history at AEW All In by winning the Tag Team Titles with someone he has claimed to be his adopted son, Nick Wayne. Not only did they fail to get the job done, but Wayne turned on Cage after the match. Just as things were about to go from bad to worse for the veteran, his oldest friend came to the rescue.

Adam Copeland Rescues Christian Cage At All In

With various members of The Hurt Syndicate standing around him, Wayne was about to deliver a devastating con-chair-to to his faux father figure when Adam Copeland's music hit. Copeland sent everyone in the ring running as he strode to the ring with a baseball bat full of nails in hand.

AEW fans thought they were about to witness the Edge & Christian reunion we've been waiting for since Copeland signed with the company, but no, not yet. Copeland helped up his former best friend and told him to "find himself", leaving Cage to prop himself up with the bat he used to make sure everyone left Cage alone.

It was expected by many that Copeland and Cage might get the old band back together as soon as the former arrived in AEW. However, Cage decided to go in a very different, very heelish direction instead. It was the right call for Cage, too, as the heel work he has been doing is some of the best of his long and storied career.

Now Is The Right Time For An Edge & Christian Reunion

If Cage and Wayne weren't going to kick things up a notch by becoming father-son Tag Team Champions, though, which they're clearly not, there wasn't much more for Cage to do. He and Copeland aren't getting any younger either, so if they're going to have one more run together, now's the time to get the ball rolling.

Cage needs to come around first, of course, and that's the right way to play this. Copeland hugging Cage and everything being water under the bridge just like that might have gotten a pop in the moment, but it wouldn't make sense long term. Cage has been a heinous villain for years. His turn can't be instantaneous, nor should Copeland be willing to trust him right away.

Telling a story and building gradually to the full reunion will make it much more satisfying when it finally happens, too. We all know where we're going, but that won't make it any less special once we get there. Tonight was the first step towards what will likely be the final run of what many would argue is the best tag team in wrestling history.
