  • WWE considering a tag team name for The Rock and John Cena - The Rock and Soul Connection?
  • The idea has a strong family legacy tie to The Rock's dad, Soulman, Rocky Johnson.
  • Controversy arises among fans regarding the relevance of the name in association with Cena's role in this duo.

A recent report suggests WWE might be working on a name for the duo of The Rock and John Cena. Apparently, it's not enough to call them The Rock and John Cena, there is some belief they need a faction or tag team name.

The Rock And Soul Connection?

During the latest episode of WrestleVotes Radio on SportsKeeda’s Backstage Pass Patreon, it was reported that WWE has discussed calling The Rock and Cena “The Rock and Soul Connection.” Similar to what The Rock called his duo when he was teamed with Mankind, (The Rock and Sock Connection), this name has a bit more of a family legacy tie to it.

They add:

“The unlikely yet shocking pair of The Rock and John Cena will have strong promotion behind it as we move towards WrestleMania with one of the ideas to label the duo being The Rock and Soul Connection, a nod to the Rock’s father, Soulman, Rocky Johnson, perhaps.”

With WrestleMania just around the corner and Cena confirmed for several appearances on Monday Night Raw moving forward, fans are expected to get clarity on why he turned on Cody Rhodes. Did he simply sell out? Or is there some other motivation behind his decision to turn on Cody, his fans, and The WWE Universe? And, if The Rock isn't expected to be making appearances alongside Cena for many of these shows, why give them a name at all?

Is This The World's Worst Name?

It's not known if WWE is going to go through with this, but the idea sounds awful. Not only is it blatantly repetitious of the old name The Rock shared with Mankind, but it has nothing to do with Cena, who is arguably the more important name of the two in this equation.

This angle is getting the attention it's getting because Cena turned heel. Yes, he sold his soul to The Rock, which makes the name somewhat logical, but the idea that this is a nod to Rocky Johnson makes little sense in the backstory of Cena's turn. The duo arguably doesn't need a name at all -- unless, of course, WWE is turning this into an entire faction of people turned by The Rock -- but to not include a link to Cena in the name seems wild.
