WWE Must Permanently Reunite 'Best Tag Team in World' After AAA Alianzas Surprise

AAA Alianzas was a newsworthy event which saw the shock reunion of The Lucha Brothers (Penta and Rey Fenix), who are set to team together on WWE TV for the first time since leaving AEW in 2024. The duo appeared via video to send out a challenge to AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano.

Lucha Brothers Reunion Should Be Permanent

The Lucha Brothers have challenged Mysterio and Americano to a match at AAA Guerra de Titanes on December 20th. This will be the first time WWE fans get to witness the pair as a team, and those unaware of their work elsewhere, including in AEW, will likely be left wanting more.

Penta was the first to sign with WWE back in January 2025, arriving on RAW, and he was immediately showcased as a top star. His production included pyro and a special presentation, which also indicated that he was to receive a significant push, perhaps becoming 'the next Rey Mysterio', the promotion has long desired.

Rey Fenix joined two months later, but WWE threw a surprise and had him debut on SmackDown rather than join his brother on RAW. While Fenix was given similar pyro, he didn't feel as big-time as his brother, and that was highlighted when he was placed in tag teams with Andrade.

While The Lucha Bros have individually garnered support from WWE's fanbase, they have yet to reach the level which preceded them in AEW. Fans who watched them put together some of the best tag team matches in the promotion's history will be keen to see their reunion at AAA's December show.

But this shouldn't be a one-off because WWE could do with bolstering their tag team division, especially on RAW. The time has come to permanently use the brothers as a tag team for several reasons.

Penta is the bigger star in WWE right now, and having Fenix regularly partner with him can help take his brother to the same level of superstardom. There are also some intriguing matches and storylines for them that could benefit both brands, including long-awaited bouts with The Usos and The New Day, while seeing them battle World Tag Team Champions AJ Styles and Dragon Lee could make for a match-of-the-year contender.

There isn't a need to halt their singles runs, as WWE should start being more adaptable with their tag teams as they were with the likes of the New Day years ago. While a trio, Kofi Kingston and Big E won the WWE Championship and continuing both Penta and Fenix's pushes as individuals can still continue.

"Best Tag Team in The World" - Booker T Made Lucha Bros Point

Before The Lucha Brothers joined WWE they were regarded as one of the best tag teams in the world and Booker T in fact labelled them the very best back in 2021. The WWE Hall of Famer gave a glowing verdict of the duo and echoed the point about fan support.

Booker said on his Hall of Fame podcast:

"The reason why I say The Lucha Brothers may be the best tag-team is because wherever these guys go, if you let them, they’ll get over. Anywhere these guys go, if you let them do their thing, they will get over with the fans and they can bring a whole lot of money to your company just because people will want to support them and see them. They might be the best tag-team in the world right now."

The Lucha Brothers won the AEW World Tag Team Championships and were credited for the Lucha Libre style growing in AEW. They have competed all over the world, including in Mexico and Japan, and they have teamed before in AAA, including at Triplemania.
