WWE finally unmasked their mystery man on Monday Night Raw, confirming what the entire wrestling world already knew: Austin Theory has been the masked attacker since WarGames.
The reveal itself worked fine. The problem? WWE waited two weeks too long, turning what should have been a shocking moment into an obvious confirmation that treated fans like they couldn't figure out the obvious.

Theory made his presence felt during the Rey Mysterio vs. Logan Paul match, delivering a stomp to Mysterio that shifted momentum back to Paul. Unlike previous appearances, the masked man stuck around instead of fleeing through the crowd.
Theory unmasked himself in the crowd, finally giving us the answer everyone had already guessed.
WWE telegraphed that something big was coming. Raw opened with Adam Pearce grilling Paul Heyman backstage, and if his lips are moving, then you know he's lying like a Persian rug.
The commentary team spent far more time discussing the masked man than in previous weeks. The pieces were in place for a major reveal.
Here's where WWE miscalculated badly.
As we've been covering since WarGames, speculation immediately pointed to Theory. Two weeks passed. Saturday Night's Main Event came and went. John Cena had his final match against Gunther.
The wrestling world moved on to debating Cena's retirement and Gunther's historic moment. And WWE still hadn't pulled the trigger on the reveal.
There's even speculation that the second masked man attack last week was someone else entirely. If that's true, WWE tried to throw fans off the scent.
It didn't work. Everyone still knew it was Theory.
By the time Raw rolled around, confirming Theory under the mask felt like old news. The mystery had been solved in fans' minds days ago.
WWE took what could have been a genuine shock and turned it into "yeah, we know, we've known for two weeks."
When you delay the obvious, you treat your fans like fools.
Timing is everything in wrestling. Strike while the iron is hot, or the moment passes you by.
The timing problem was magnified by Theory not being involved in Saturday Night's Main Event.
There's been serious discussion about who should have been John Cena's final opponent. Gunther has nuclear heat right now, which works perfectly for a retiring legend.
Theory had that built-in storyline from his WrestleMania 39 match against Cena sitting right there. A natural rivalry. History between them. Theory as the young star who could have retired the legend.
That writes itself.
Instead, WWE chose Gunther, which was great - but now Theory gets revealed after everyone's already emotionally spent from Cena's farewell.
How much do fans have left to give after pouring everything into Cena's last match? Would an immediate post-WarGames reveal have capitalized on the momentum instead of letting it fizzle while everyone focused on Cena versus Gunther?
Theory received "Austin Theory" chants from the crowd, which proves fans still care about him despite months off television.
His addition to the Vision faction gives him Paul Heyman as a mouthpiece, and CM Punk now has another adversary watching his every move.
The 28-year-old former United States champion has main event talent. His in-ring ability speaks for itself, and WWE clearly sees him as a top-of-the-card star for the future.
The pieces are there for Theory to succeed.
Theory's unmasking should have popped the crowd more than it did.
Instead, it fell relatively flat because everyone saw it coming from a mile away. Fans just poured out emotion over Cena's final match and Gunther's historic win.
The timing couldn't have been worse for Theory's big return.
A reveal immediately after WarGames would have struck while the mystery was still hot. Two weeks later? The iron had gone cold.
Wrestling fans have long memories. They remember when promotions insult their intelligence. WWE risked exactly that by dragging this out past its expiration date.
Theory joins a stacked Vision faction that includes Logan Paul, Bron Breakker, and Bronson Reed.
His alliance with this group creates fresh matchup possibilities, and CM Punk now has another member of the Vision to contend with on Raw's upper card.
But here's the problem: the Vision is crowded with all its members, and it's a safe bet to figure Bron Breakker is going to remain in the title picture up until WrestleMania.
What can Theory do to stand out in that faction?
You figure that he has to be involved in something dramatic at January's Royal Rumble - it's now mandatory that he is. His unfinished business with Rey Mysterio gives WWE storytelling options moving forward.
The question is whether the botched timing of his reveal will hurt his momentum before it even starts. If it does, WWE can only blame themselves for the miscalculation.
The masked man mystery is solved. Now comes the hard part - making sure Austin Theory's poorly-timed reintroduction actually matters in the crowded landscape of WWE's Road to WrestleMania, especially when he's fighting for spotlight in an already packed faction.
