WWE Raw Storylines That Are Stuck In A Rut (& Others Working Well)
via IMAGN Image Services

Since WrestleMania 41, WWE Raw has been riding a wave of renewed energy, showcasing character turns, unexpected alliances, and fresh faces shaking up the weekly product. Triple H continues to put his creative fingerprints on the red brand, with his storytelling direction sometimes hitting the mark brilliantly, while other angles get lost in the shuffle.

In a 2+ hour show packed with talent, it’s inevitable that not every storyline will thrive. Some angles have clearly struck a chord with the audience, while others feel stalled, repetitive, or simply lack a clear destination. There are plenty of current Raw storylines that fall somewhere in the middle, like Karrion Kross playing Devil's Advocate, the slow-burn breakup between Austin Theory and Grayson Waller, and even Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria's feud. With that said, here are two WWE Raw storylines that are clicking on all cylinders, and three that are struggling to find their footing.

Stuck In A Rut: El Grande Americano

WWE Needs To Figure Out What This Will Ultimately Lead To

Chad Gable’s "El Grande Americano" gimmick had potential for a short-term angle, but it should have ended by now. It started as a fun re-invention that now feels directionless, with Gable clearly being the person behind the mask.

Whether it's as Gable or Grande Americano, he's been feuding with the same people - specifically luchadors like Rey Mysterio and Penta- since January, and it feels like the payoff won't lead to anything groundbreaking (or even a little exciting). The gimmick will likely last for at least another month, when WWE hosts its Worlds Collide event alongside AAA.

Working Well: IYO SKY's World Championship Reign

IYO Is Getting The Love She Deserves While Competing With Established Stars & New Faces

IYO SKY has been thriving as WWE Women’s World Champion on Raw. Not only did she beat Rhea Ripley to win the title, she's also successfully defended multiple times against top-tier talent, most notably putting on a 5-star classic at WrestleMania 41 and walking out with the title. Her current reign highlights her in-ring excellence while positioning her as a credible and respected champion, rightfully main eventing Raw on multiple occasions.

IYO's currently at the peak of her WWE career, anchoring Raw's Women's Division by facing any and all comers. New foes Roxanne Perez & Giulia (and even NXT Women's Champion Stephanie Vaquer) have faced off with the champ, while Rhea is likely to challenge her ally sooner rather than later. It's an exciting mix of talent that is catapulting Raw's Women's Division to a whole other level, led by SKY.

Stuck In A Rut: Tag Team Title Scene

New Day Work Well As Champions, But The Tag Team Title Scene Is Ice-Cold

WWE

After a few months of mediocrity following their epic heel turn, New Day finally made some noise when they won the WWE World Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania 41. That noise, however, has yet to translate into anything resembling an exciting storyline.

Simply put, the division around them is ice-cold. Not only is there a lack of tag teams, but fans get the same repetitive matches over and over. Case in point: The Creeds took on the War Raiders last night on Raw, with New Day costing the faces the match. Will this lead to another New Day Vs. War Raiders match? There’s no real buzz or compelling long-term rivalries. Without creative stakes or fresh narratives, the tag scene feels like total filler.

Working Well: Main Event Scene

Jey Uso's World Title Reign X Seth Rollins' New Stable

WWE

Talk about a heck of a main event scene. One of the best aspects of wrestling is when multiple storylines interact and overlap with each other. Triple H is doing a magnificent job of intertwining multiple main event angles on Raw: World Champion Jey Uso has to deal with contenders Logan Paul and Gunther, while also having to watch his back for Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker, who are looking to take over Raw with Paul Heyman. Add in Sami Zayn and CM Punk and all their personal issues with each wrestler mentioned, and we've got a hot main event scene that can go in many different directions, causing fans to tune in every week.

Stuck In A Rut: Judgment Day Implosion

It's Been Dragged For Way Too Long

WWE

The Judgment Day breakup tease has dragged on well past its expiration date. WWE fans know Finn Balor is angry and jealous, and is ultimately going to break away from the group... some day.

Monday’s Raw saw AJ Styles defeat Balor, who had help from fellow Judgment Day members Carlito and JD McDonagh, but not from Dominik Mysterio. This will surely be the talking point on next week's Raw, with Balor likely to blame Dom for not helping him out, especially since he and JD have another match lined up against Styles and Penta. Repeated tensions and passive-aggressive interactions have worn thin, and fans are losing interest in a split that now feels inevitable, but endlessly delayed.
