WWE Releases Multiple Superstars Amid Ongoing Layoffs
via IMAGN Image Services
  • Recent WWE talent cuts include Shayna Baszler and Braun Strowman, aligning with post-WrestleMania roster trimming.
  • Departures suggest financial moves & freeing up roster space - with Baszler issuing cryptic response to release.
  • Post-release message from Cora Jade and additional departures signal ongoing changes and potential future opportunities.

In what appears to be an expanding round of talent cuts, WWE has released several notable performers, many of whom were on the main roster. The news, initially reported by X account WrestleVotes and sources like Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful suggest that social media posts from the stars themselves and via internal memos, these talent releases come following a wave of corporate layoffs.

This series of cuts aligns with WWE's longstanding pattern of trimming talent rosters in the wake of big shows like WrestleMania and when executive-level changes or financial budget cuts are made. It was noted that at least 10 to 12 employees from WWE's corporate side were let go on May 1, 2025, and the expectation was that talent cuts would follow. They started on Friday.

Cora Jade Is Released From WWE After Four Years In The Company

Rising star Cora Jade, who had been absent from TV due to injury, also confirmed her departure. She posted a telling message on X: "Just got a lot of free time in our hands, see you soon." She added, "Thankful for all the childhood dreams I got to live out! I have a lot to say in due time. Stay tuned xoxo." Jade was most recently wrestled at NXT Stand & Deliver 2025 where she lost a tag team Fatal Four Way match with her partner Roxanne Perez.

Shayna Baszler Has Been Released After A Long WWE Career

Shayna Baszler responded to her release with a cryptic and defiant message on social media: "No one can offer what I have to offer. Reality. Let the Galaxy burn." Known for her gritty style and MMA pedigree, Baszler’s departure isn't incredibly shocking given how infrequently she was used on television. The leader of the maligned group Pure Fusion Collective Sonya Deville did not have her contract renewed in February and Baszler only had one match on the main roster after that.

Braun Strowman Has Been Let Go By WWE For A Second Time In 4 Years

In perhaps the most shocking release of the day, "The Monster Among Men" Braun Strowman has been released by WWE. Strowman had returned to the company back in 2022 after being released in 2021.

Since his return, Strowman has been used more in a support role. He was in a tag team with current AEW star Ricochet for a while and was in numerous feuds involving the United States and Intercontinental Championships. Most recently, he was engaged in a feud with Jacob Fatu that largely served to make Fatu look like an absolute monster.

Dakota Kai Has Been Released By WWE

In a surprising move, WWE has released longtime veteran wrestler Dakota Kai. Kai has been featured regularly on WWE TV over the past few years, notably being a part of the Damage CTRL faction with the likes of Asuka, Bayley and Iyo Sky.

Kai's most recent matches revolved around her chasing WWE Women's Intercontinental Champion Lyra Valkyria. Kai would lose to Valkyria in the finals of the Women's Intercontinetal Championship Tournament back in January of this year.

Former WWE Women's Tag Team Champions Katana Chance & Kayden Carter Have Been Released

One of the few WWE Women's Tag Team Champions, Katana Chance and Kayden Carter were also a part of WWE's roster cuts today. Chance and Carter have been used seldom in the past few months, and their last win came in November 2024 in an episode of WWE Main Event against Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn (who was released back in February 2025).

NXT Has Seen A Flurry Of Releases

Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp further reported that Eddy Thorpe and Riley Osborne have also indicated their WWE exits through social media posts. In addition, Gigi Dolin's release has been confirmed by Fightful Select. She wrote on her social media account, "Officially free to work in 30 days." Showing she's eager to get hired, she included her email on the post.

WWE, per PWInsider , have also released Jakara Jackson and Gallus (Joe Coffey, Mark Coffey & Wolfgang). Fightful also confirmed the release of Riley Osborne.
