WWE are expected to make Chad Gable the biggest heel on one of their shows when he returns from injury "very soon." Gable has been out of action since late May with a rotator cuff issue, but he has recently been back in the Performance Center, stepping up his recovery.
Chad Gable was performing the role of the masked luchador El Grande Americano before sustaining his injury. He was handed his first WrestleMania match while using the persona, defeating Rey Fenix at Allegiant Stadium in April.
Ludwig Kaiser replaced Gable as Americano, and it seems WWE will use this as a storyline when the American Made stable leader returns. The decision to turn Kaiser's version of the character babyface at AAA Guerra de Titanes is set to ignite Gable's return and push as the top heel in AAA Lucha Libre Worldwide.
An update on WWE's plans for Gable was given during the latest episode of Self Made Pro's Self Made Sessions:
"Here’s the deal. At the end of the AAA show, Kaiser’s version of El Grande Americano turned babyface. That’s happening because Chad Gable is returning, and he’s going to come back as the top heel in the promotion. You can expect him back very, very, very soon—both as the heel Grande and as Chad Gable. You can lock that in. There you go."
Kaiser's Americano appeared to turn babyface at the end of the latest AAA show when he shook hands with Rey Mysterio after being shoved by Dominik Mysterio. He has been a heel during his time with the mask but WWE are seemingly set to book a feud between him and Gable's version of the luchador.
Gable will therefore be a member of the AAA roster when he returns, as well as continuing as American Made's leader on WWE RAW. There has long been a desire among fans to see the 39-year-old given a significant push, as he's yet to win a singles title.
WWE seemed keen to push Chad Gable in 2024 when he was put in the spotlight as a top heel on RAW. He was involved in one of the biggest angles in the brand's history when The Wyatt Sicks debuted by destroying the backstage area.
Gable was already breaking away from Alpha Academy at the time, but WWE dropped the ball with a potential feud between him and Otis. When he extended his contract with the promotion, Triple H said he wanted to keep hold of him "forever."
The new year gives WWE the chance to take a fresh approach with their creative, which has come under criticism during 2025. As such, Gable should be one of several stars pushed, and booking him to win the Money in the Bank briefcase could be the perfect way to do so.
Gable has shown he has the charisma, along with the in-ring ability, to succeed, and it's surprising it's taken the promotion so long to position him as a major player. His comedic characteristics could be a match in heaven for teasing cash-ins and feud with the likes of CM Punk and Cody Rhodes.
