WWE SmackDown Results (8/8/25):
- After headlining his final SummerSlam last weekend, John Cena comes out to welcome the WWE Universe to SmackDown. Cena thanked the WWE Universe, saying that most people were afraid of him coming back to Canada, but he wasn’t. Why is that? Because he knows that the fans can do whatever they want, and he embraces that. Cena made it known that he was aware that this retirement tour wasn’t perfect, but he’s going to do his best to put his concerns aside about “being forgotten” once he leaves WWE at the end of 2025. After bearing his heart out, Cena issued a stern warning to everyone: if they want some, come get some, before the retirement tour ends. Logan Paul would interrupt, verbally run Cena down, and challenge him to a match. Before Cena could respond, Drew McIntyre would beat him down. Fortunately, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes came in for the save. John Cena would accept Paul’s call for a match and challenge McIntyre and Logan to a tag team main event against him and Cody Rhodes for tonight on SmackDown.
- After a wild Six-Pack TLC Match at Sunday’s WWE SummerSlam, the Motor City Machine Guns are back at it again against Talla Tonga and J.C. Mateo in a tag team battle. Despite not being at 100%, MCMG showcased an intense offensive assault on Tonga and Mateo. Unfortunately, with the damage they sustained in TLC and the combined powers of Talla and JC, Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin would fall to the MFTs, with the latter eating a Chokeslam from Talla Tonga for the pin. Right after the match, Solo Sikoa would announce to the WWE Universe that they’re looking at the winners of the match and future WWE Tag Team Champions. Sikoa would go on to say that it’s a shame he’s in gear and wants to fight, but there’s no one around. So, they’ll leave, shading Canada in the process. Before Sikoa and the MFTs could leave, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis would stop him, saying that he has a special guest that’s ready to fight right now, and that’s Canada’s own Sami Zayn.
- An impromptu but much-welcomed match is next as the hometown hero Sami Zayn takes on the self-proclaimed “Greatest United States Champion” of all time, Solo Sikoa. It was a spirited affair between former members of The Bloodline. Unfortunately, it was somewhat tainted with persistent interference from the MFTs. Sami Zayn would rise to the occasion, fighting Mateo and Talla. Sikoa saw an opening, setting Zayn up for the Spike. Sami would duck the attempt and turn it into a roll-up, winning in Canada to a thunderous reception.
-
New WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair address the WWE Universe, with Flair having a birthday surprise for her partner. Flair would roll out a cake, with her name being bigger than the birthday girl’s, as well as a neatly wrapped present. Charlotte reminded Alexa that she had given Flair Lily the Doll four years ago, and the present was a friend for Lily, a doll named “Charlie.” To cap it all off, Charlotte granted Alexa the privilege to “hug the Queen.” Before that could happen, Chelsea Green and The Secret HERvice would interrupt. Green would rain on their parade, saying that they don’t deserve this celebration, and Canada should be celebrating her homecoming. Flair would shut Green up, challenging her to a match tonight, but Chelsea refused. Unfortunately for her, Nick Aldis had other plans, setting up another birthday gift for Alexa Bliss and sanctioning a match between Charlotte and Chelsea.
- Hometown girl Chelsea Green battles one-half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, Charlotte Flair. The Queen was in top form tonight, but Green did not let up one bit in her home country. Green’s absurdity went to another level in this match, asking for Bliss’ cake from Alba Fyre and Piper Niven. The Secret HERVice would get taken out by Bliss on the outside, while Green tried to hit Flair with the Un-Pretty-Her on the cake. Flair would counter, driving Chelsea face-first into the cake, before forcing her to submit with a Figure-Eight Leg Lock.
- Backstage, we see WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton, with Cathy Kelley asking her what’s next. Stratton wanted to keep defending the title she’s held for over half a year. Jade Cargill would enter the fray, stating that the next time they faced off, the outcome would be different. Stratton begged to differ before walking away. Kianna James and Women’s United States Champion Giulia would give Cargill a calling card, telling her to think about it, before Michin would take it from her since she’s “not gonna do anything with it.”
- After a reunion of sorts backstage between R-Truth and John Cena, Logan Paul is out first, tagging with Drew McIntyre against Cena and new Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in a blockbuster main event tag team match. The intensity of this match mirrored a PLE marquee matchup. In the closing moments of the bout, McIntyre had Cena on the ropes, before Rhodes would throw Drew out, leaving the legal men in the match in the ring. Cena was about to finish it off before Paul hit a low blow, leading to a disqualification. Both would fight to the backstage area. McIntyre and Rhodes would get into a brawl themselves, culminating in a belt shot to the dome of Cody, and a Claymore through the side of the announce table. Drew McIntyre made his intentions clear to end the show; he’s gunning for the Undisputed WWE Title.
That concludes the WWE SmackDown results for August 8th, 2025, as they happened.
