WWE Superstars Pushing For Controversial Wrestler To Make Shocking Return
Shelby Reeves/Chillicothe Gazette / USA TODAY NETWORK

There has been confusion surrounding Alberto El Patron, better known to WWE fans as Alberto Del Rio, and his relationship with WWE since the promotion bought AAA. Although WWE has seemingly been trying to force Del Rio out of its new acquisition, a promotion to which he is currently signed, several Superstars in WWE have reportedly been pushing for the company to bring him back into the fold.

WWE Superstars Want Alberto Del Rio Back In The Company

There had been rumors swirling this week suggesting wrestlers had been pushing WWE to re-sign Del Rio, and a new report courtesy of Cultaholic has potentially revealed who some of those wrestlers are. Andrade, Humberto Carillo, and Angel Garza, so all wrestlers who hail from Mexico, like Del Rio, and apparently other Mexcian stars employed in WWE share the same sentiment.

Andrade, in particular, has a close relationship with Del Rio. The former NXT Champion previously revealed that it was Del Rio who tried to convince him to stay with WWE when he eventually wound up leaving the company in 2021. Andrade would end up going against Del Rio's advice, but then worked and teamed with him in some of his first matches after leaving WWE.

Despite Andrade and other wrestlers' efforts, all signs currently point to WWE opting not to re-sign Del Rio. The former WWE Champion was the AAA Mega Champion at the time of WWE's AAA acquisition. That didn't last long as WWE quickly had El Hijo del Vikingo, a wrestler that it clearly has plans for, beat Del Rio for AAA's top prize, even spoiling the result of the match on Raw ahead of time.

Alberto Del Rio's History With WWE

There was a time when Del Rio was one of WWE's top stars. He has done just about everything there is to do in the company, WWE Champion, Royal Rumble win, and Money in the Bank winner just some of the impressive accolades on his resume. However, almost a decade on from his most recent release, WWE seems dead set on wanting nothing to do with him.

Del Rio was initially fired by WWE in 2014 for a backstage altercation with an employee. However, he returned the following year, but his second run was short lived. Although he has continued to wrestle since then, Del Rio has had problems away from the business, including an arrest for aggravated assault and kidnapping in 2020. All of that said, between that and the lukewarm reception he'd likely receive from fans, a WWE return seems unlikely, no matter who's pushing for it.
