As expected, the coronavirus pandemic will prevent WWE from holding its annual SummerSlam events in Boston over the weekend of Aug. 21.
On Monday, PWInsider's Mike Johnson reported that WWE relocated SummerSlam and the accompanying editions of "Raw" and "SmackDown" to its Performance Center because of the uncontrolled virus outbreak. The pay-per-view card will occur at the Florida site on Aug. 23.
According to the Wrestling Observer, an NXT Takeover show is scheduled to air on the WWE Network on Aug. 22.
WWE has produced weekly shows at the Performance Center throughout the pandemic since March. In late June, there were fears that a virus outbreak among personnel could threaten the promotion's taping schedule.
Similar to WrestleMania, SummerSlam creates one of the biggest weeks on the professional wrestling calendar. Independent companies typically hold events in the same city as the WWE shows over the weekend.
WWE has yet to officially announce the news as of early Monday afternoon.
