The UFC returns to Brazil for Charles Oliveira’s homecoming fight.
Originally scheduled to face Muay Thai specialist Rafael Fiziev, the former UFC Lightweight Champion will now face a fellow grappler in the #8-ranked Mateusz Gamrot in the new main event of UFC Rio.
Oliveira returns this Saturday, 105 days after the Brazilian suffered a brutal knockout loss to current champ Ilia Topuria at UFC 317.
Poland’s Gamrot has won four out of his last five fights, hoping to re-enter the top 5 and make his case for a title fight with another win.
Along with Oliveira vs. Gamrot, here are some other bouts worth the watch on fight night.
The unranked Montel Jackson is one of the most underrated fighters in the UFC bantamweight division.
‘Quik’ is riding a six-fight win streak heading into this fight with the former two-time flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo, who’s ranked #6 in the world.
Many fans feared it was the end for Figueiredo after the 37-year-old injured his knee against Cory Sandhagen in May, but he’s back at it, trying to hold off what could be a serious contender at 135 lbs.

With 11 knockdowns, Montel Jackson is the bantamweight record holder and is tied with Chuck Lidell, Rampage Jackson, Cody Garbrandt, and Josh Emmett for the most consecutive fights with a knockdown (7).

Recently ranked at lightweight, Spain’s Joel Alvarez will be making his welterweight debut this weekend against perennial contender Vicente Luque.
Alvarez has won eight out of his last ten fights, with one of those losses to current #1 contender Arman Tsarukyan.
Alvarez has only seen the distance once in his 25-fight career. Alvarez and Luque have a combined 42 finishes between them, making this fight one to watch.

There are a couple of UFC heavyweights who have brothers in other weight divisions.
Valter Walker, half-brother of UFC Light Heavyweight Johnny Walker, has been making a name for himself in the Octagon.
Walker has finished his last three UFC fights by way of heel hook submission.
Walker’s next opponent is Mohammed Usman, younger brother of former pound-for-pound king Kamaru Usman.
Usman gave the undefeated Hamdy Abdelwahab his first loss in June, looking to make it two wins in a row against Walker.
Brazil’s Lucas Almeida could be fighting for his career at UFC Rio.
Almeida has lost three out of his last four fights, hungry for a win at home after missing weight for his most recent bout.
His opponent, former Fury FC Featherweight Champion Michael Aswell, looks for his first UFC win after making his debut on a few days notice against Bolaji Oki in May.
The featherweights have 19 fight finishes between them.
