October WTA Power Rankings: Sabalenka remains at top as Anisimova continues surge

There’s hardly any sport where parity is as prevalent as in women’s tennis. The sport is one of the most thrilling watches out there precisely because of that parity as every event guarantees at least one if not dozens of what could be generously described as massive surprises.

That’s why having a sort of power rankings is very useful to determine where players currently stand. Things move quickly, and while last year nobody would have considered Amanda Anisimova as one of the best players in the world, she surely is now. So we’ve prepared current power rankings for you so you can get a sense of where each player stands right now regardless of where they rank–because this is highly specific to current form, which rarely (if ever) coincides with the actual ranking.

Tennis Power Rankings

1. Aryna Sabalenka

WTA Rank: 1
WTA Race: 1

Realistically speaking, Aryna Sabalenka is still the top player in the WTA. She’s had an incredible year, reaching three Grand Slam finals and winning one of them. The one she won was the most recent one and it was fairly recently, so considering that she’s both ranked #1 in the rankings and in the race and won the most recent big event, she’s our #1–though this could change in the future.

2. Iga Swiatek

WTA Rank: 2
WTA Race: 2

Iga Swiatek remains a rather enigmatic player in 2025, oscillating between fantastic and puzzling. She’s still arguably the #2 in the world because that’s the type of season she’s had. Her ranking and her race position confirm it as she’s #2 in both. She’s also won a couple of events this year, and who can forget that Wimbledon trouncing of Anisimova.

3. Amanda Anisimova

WTA Rank: 4
WTA Race: 3

Anisimova was always one of those players who had this level in her, but recently she’s just been ridiculously good. Winning the Beijing event on top of making the final in two of the last Grand Slams means that she’s #3 at the least. The only reason why she’s not #1 right now is because we need to see her keep this up for a little longer, but right now, fantastic Anisimova at #3.

4. Coco Gauff

WTA Rank: 3
WTA Race: 4

Coco Gauff remains arguably the most consistent player on the WTA Tour, winning matches every week but never quite pushing all the way forward. It’s good enough to be ranked #4 on our list, but for her to go higher we want to see more than her just being consistently underwhelming. Quarters is not where this player is supposed to finish her weekly adventures, and until that changes, she’s rightfully behind those that have managed to push further.

5. Elena Rybakina

WTA Rank: 9
WTA Race: 8

Elena Rybakina has quietly had a pretty impressive year and she’s been trending upward lately. What we’ve seen from her at the events in the past few weeks makes us excited for how she could finish the season. Either way, she’s a bit higher than anticipated precisely because we think she could put forward some amazing performances in the coming weeks.

6. Mirra Andreeva

WTA Rank: 8
WTA Race: 5

Mirra Andreeva has never been ranked higher than #5, which shows that she’s consistently improving as a player, and yet fans feel she’s been underperforming because she hasn’t really made a big push at any of the recent events. Both can be true, but we’re backing Andreeva to finish the year strongly which is why she’s #6 on our list despite some of the weaker showings recently.

7. Madison Keys

WTA Rank: 7
WTA Race: 6

Madison Keys hasn’t really shown up for a while in the form she had at the start of the year when she finally became a Grand Slam champion. Even so, the American remains one of the most dangerous pure ballstrikers on Tour, and when she’s truly at her best she can beat anyone. We like her chances to bounce back and finish strongly as she hopes to secure a WTA Finals appearance.

8. Jessica Pegula

WTA Rank: 6
WTA Race: 7

Jessica Pegula is another player who suffers a bit from not being able to win trophies often. The American remains a consistent winner, rarely producing early exits, but to be ranked higher you either have to have shown us you win big like Keys has or you have to go deep consistently. Pegula hasn’t really been able to do that in a while since her last trophy was in Charleston a few months back, hence why she’s at #8 for now.

9. Naomi Osaka

WTA Rank: 16
WTA Race: 16

There’s lots to be excited about if you’re a fan of Naomi Osaka because she’s slowly starting to put things together. The Japanese player remains a steady force on hard courts, and with most of the events coming up being on that surface, she has a good chance for some really strong finishes. Keep in mind that she could also make a push for the WTA Finals, and while a longshot, it’s certainly a storyline worth following.

10. Jasmine Paolini

WTA Rank: 8
WTA Race: 9

While somewhat of a regression to the mean occurred with Paolini, she didn’t utterly disappoint this year. There were some really strong showings as she’s still performed like a Top 10 player on Tour, which is exactly where we place her. Lifting Italy to win the Billie Jean King Cup was a masterclass, and as such she’s one to look out for in the coming weeks.
