Adam Azim vs Gustavo Lemos was set to headline a BOXXER promotions card at the Copper Box Arena in London. Due to an injury sustained by Lemos, the fight has now been postponed. It remains to be seen if the fight card will still proceed. Ring Magazine are reporting a replacement was found, but a new injury has curtailed those plans.
The official statement from BOXXER read:
“Adam Azim’s scheduled bout with Gustavo Lemos has been postponed due to injury.
The IBF No.2 eliminator, set for Saturday, January 31, will be rescheduled after both fighters sustained injuries in training.
Lemos has been forced to withdraw due to a hand injury.
A replacement opponent was secured, but following an injury suffered in his final sparring session, scan results received yesterday confirmed that Azim is also unable to box.
The IBF No.2 eliminator between Azim and Lemos will be rescheduled for later this year.
Further updates regarding BOXXER’s The World Awaits fight night next Saturday at the Copper Box Arena in London will be announced shortly.”
It remains to be seen when this fight will be rescheduled, and what will happen to the rest of the fight card. Will it move to a new date with Azim (14-0, 11 KOs) vs Lemos (30-2, 20 KOs), or will it go ahead as planned on Saturday?
The report from Ring Magazine suggests that Nahir Albright was set to be the replacement, but Azim subsequently injured his hand, leading to the postponement of the bout. The card may still go ahead with Fran Hennessy vs Ellie Bouttell elevated to the headline slot.
